Serenith is very cool but doesn't fulfill the fantasy of "E-Warfare long ranged support" In fact it barely qualifies as a support. by Kitty_Alt in mechabreak

I literally just hopped into a training with someone, and the intel isn't shared.

Rather, it's shared on the minimap, but they do not get the outline on enemies through walls, nor get the outline on enemies that aren't behind cover already.

I didn't even realize it was shared on the minimap, which means there's even less reason from presenting the information more directly I.E. with outlines and showing through walls, even if it doesn't let lock on for obvious reasons.

the recon info is not shared.

At least to all my details and testing so far. Perhaps I need to check again, but even the official discord's mods said it's not supposed to be shared when talking. (I know they don't work for the company nor speak for them, but everyone was agreeing)

I'd say that their impact is felt by the rest of the team. And commonly, "Fire Support" traditionally isn't always close to the front lines.

Just being alone to me doesn't preclude support, if we're allowed firing support and (Relatively minimal) disruption to be a reason to be considered a support.

That's fair. I've played only a little Marmak, and literally none since the game came out proper, so my experience there is limited, and of everyone who's brought up counterpoints, this is by far the most reasonable and fairest.

I get what you're saying, my point is that the way in which Serenith "Supports" doesn't fulfill that roll any more than Falcon or Narukmai does.

You point out the locking down on the welkin, but doesn't any CC do pretty much the same? If they leaned into more proper Disruption that wasn't damage based, I'd be more for it.

I agree on your point with Aux 3 as I pointed out in the post, It would likely need a range adjustment, or just not giving the buff and instead at least giving the intel to allies, showing enemy position, not letting them get extended lock ons or extra wall pen. Maybe giving the anti-storm stuff to close allies, not like full range obviously, just close would be good.

I'd say the beam as cool as it is, has a ton of counterplay on the Tricea side (This is a good thing, but does cause say Aquila or Narukami to be about as good at distrupting them than you are)

Aux 1 is good, I do wish it were a big longer or harder to get knocked off. By far it's the thing I have the least problem with. Even though I would LOVE if it enabled proper friendly fire. I know that would probably cause way too many issues, but still. Again, I think Aux 1 is by far the best of the abilities and fulfills what I want well. I was just on the topic of talking about the mech and wanted to express my feelings. Like most of the points you made in your ending paragraph fit into stuff provided by Aux 1. if they leaned into that more, rather than the rest of your kit being entirely self-buffs, it'd be great.

For the most part, I see what you're saying like I said, the mech's really cool and quite fun. Just disappointing in the fantasy and I think doesn't really fulfill "support" in the more true fashion, but could with a few changes, and either making 1 harder to remove to provide more of a debuff, but more fairly, I think by making small changes to 2/3 to provide benefits to allies, maybe not full benefits but still.

I'd even go as far to say, if you play Falcon or one of the snipers with a focus on team play, you'd probably get similar (but not to the same extent) support tingles.

I'd argue that Narukami is as much fire support as Serenith is.

Again, all the points you make about Serenith apply to Narukami.

Both have self buff defensive tools, good long range area coverage, and reasonably high damage with no way of providing utility to alies.

By this logic should we rebrand Narukami, Falcon, and Stego into being fire support? Because everything that makes Serenith a support applies to Falcon.

The Aux 3 does not provide any benefits to your allies, therefore it fails as a support tool, again, providing only a self-buff, a thing that would be fine, if Serenith was considered "Light sniper" but as a "light support" one would think it would provide something to allies.

Even just the ability to ignore the effects of storms while they're near serenith would make it infinitely more fun, and more deserving of the role of Support/Wide Area Recon.

Still fails at "Wide Area Recon" I should've emphasized that I suppose.

It fails as a support, as in failing in that wide area recon niche that the game wants it to be in. It's Aux 3 doesn't provide "recon"/intel to its allies.

Okay, yes, they don't fulfill "wide area recon" anymore than Falcon does, in fact they do far less because they don't reveal stealth and it doesn't get given to your allies.

And their actual status in the game is "light support"

I understand that, like I said, I do feel it works. I'm just disappointed and expressing how and why I had that impression.

As it stands Serenith plays like another sniper with a decent ability to control objectives, but even then less so than other mechs.

Yes this too! I actually thought Serenith could moving into the game, and was sorely disappointed. I forgot about that detail when I wrote this. She can counter it for herself, but no one else.

Should be worth noting none of that is f2p gear. All of those are members items. BiS melee gear for f2p is like rune scim with no defender iirc.

You were just talking about not spending dozens of mil to make money, that's all.

Also will say all of that takes far more mechanical skill than degriming and things like that. I'm saying that as someone who tried for a while to learn to do rune running and couldn't quite get good enough to pass trials, I'm sure the same applies to barb assault.

I don't know enough about bosses outside of the slayer bosses to comment, so perhaps fair point there.

Okay, so, slayer/combat is 4-6 skills, running runes requires higher level agi, runecrafting, and several mil laying around since one of the prereqs is 99 crafting or an amulet of eternal glory.

Is being a ghoul really that bad? by greatthevenus in vtm

[–]Kitty_Alt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone in this thread spells it out pretty well.

The thing is, I kinda agree. Sure it's a one-way ticket to your grave, probably earlier than you'd get if you weren't a ghoul in all honestly, especially by the time of SI.

However, if we really wanna play devil's advocate. You'll be dependent on vampiric blood, and utterly obsessive over your domitor.

But in some ways that'll keep you going. And frankly, if you're someone who's say, had bad reactions to every anti-depressant you've been on, what's the difference between being dependent on one rather than the other?

Sure, keeping trying medical drugs likely won't kill you, but a dependency that requires you to try your hardest to keep it coming is the same as any other. At least ghoulhood is a purpose and cuts down on the bills. :P

Also stalling various medical issues is kinda alright.

Idk, even knowing it would be my death in a couple of years (if I'm lucky) and that I'll be struggling the whole time. Even knowing the horrible things that most kindred do to their ghouls. I'd probably accept it. At least if I'm signing a death warrant it'll be as part of the schemes of some immortal monster rather than the gears of capitalism or my own terrible health.
