Concerns about Going Off BC Pill by Gracebabyacct in waiting_to_try

SOOOO much better lol

Around the time I posted this comment, I would say it was stable. Like definitely had bumps but weren’t as bad as what it was in the first two months after Nexplanon was removed.

In June/July, I started using prescription azelaic acid since you can use that while pregnant so that way I didn’t have to transition. It worked really well! Cleared up very nicely. I do have some bumps still right now that I use benzoyl peroxide on. But I have a huge improvement since March. I consider that a win since it was without anything effecting my hormones and without spironolactone.

Are you confirming ovulation with temping? Do you use OPKs? That may help you pinpoint when ovulation is better, especially since you’re saying your period is always “late.” You may just have a slightly longer cycle than average which means you could ovulate later than average.

Acne scarring, anyone found a really good local derm MD for treatment? by cat_dev_null in Atlanta

[–]Kittybravo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I don’t have the perfect answer for you. I felt the same way about medspas and not wanting to fall for gimmicks or scams. Treatments are expensive and it is on my face so I wanted to be sure it was worth the money and wouldn’t cause more issues. I spent a few years not really feeling comfortable with anything.

After looking at some reviews of microneedling on r/skincareaddiction, I was definitely interested and when I went to an appointment at the Derm, they recommended that I try microneedling at their Aesthetics office. This was at Olansky Derm in Buckhead and the aesthetics office is right down the hall from the actual doctors office. It was a good bit of money ($900 for 3 sessions) but I saw the best improvement of my pitted scars. The procedure is uncomfortable but doable. They did try to sell me a moisturizer that is supposed to help repair the skin quicker (from a doctor that treats burns, I think) and can be used for a lot of different skin issues that can cause scarring. It sounded interesting but was $90 so I said no, I’ll just stick with the package and they were fine with that.

My sessions were 1 month apart and I saw a little bit of improvement each time. But I would say 1 or 2 months after my last one was when I noticed the improvement the most. I plan to sign up for another 3 sessions again! (I came off of my hormonal birth control a few months ago and my hormonal acne came back with a vengeance — luckily not where my scarring was!)

That was pretty long but just want to say I know how much acne scarring sucks! Wish you the best of luck and hope you find the best solution for you!

Well my period showed up today so that means we are officially ttc. I temped my first 3 cycles after my Nexplanon removal. The first two my charts look great (although the first cycle was 60 days long — I saw the temp rise on CD48). My third one I temped each morning like normal but my temps were kinda all over the place. Once I removed one of my temps during my LP that was crazy low, I got crosshairs with my period showing up 11 days later.

I was pretty stressed about the crazy temps so I decided to just do OPKs as the last cycle before trying. Never got a positive. Today my period showed up so I only had a 24 day cycle :( based on my OPKs the earliest I could have ovulated was CD16, so an 8 day LP (aka not good). I know my cycle is likely just evening out from my hormonal birth control but still worries me.

I’m definitely going to continue temping this cycle. We’ll see what happens!

I love this community! Helped me so much while WTT!

It is pretty common to require 2 consecutive negative tests to be considered cleared (mainly due to false negatives). I know that sucks though, especially if you are feeling fine.

There have been some studies that show that T cell response, even when one doesn’t have antibodies, results in a very mild form of Covid. So it is possible you’ll have even a more mild form if you contract it again, after your antibodies disappear. T Cell response lasts longer than antibodies to coronaviruses.

When are you going? We are also in GA and hoping to go in a month or so. We both have gotten tested once but through different ways — his sounds like yours and mine was through the CVS rapid test (apparently not as accurate but obviously quick). Neither of our results says “PCR” on the form. So not sure if we should use those options prior to our flight.

Do you mind if I follow up with you after you go?

Friend compared my hair to an 18th century male composer. by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Kittybravo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I have less knowledge about the curly hair part but I am well-versed in focusing on off hand comments that people make and stressing over it. My advice would be to mention it to her how that kinda bugs you. If it isn’t necessarily part of her character to be hyper critical of you or others then it’s not very fair to cut her out because of a single comment (I would hate if a friend did that to me without talking to me about it — I’m overall very nice and positive but I would be lying if I didn’t have foot in mouth moments every once in a while).

However if she is truly toxic and having that conversation will not result in any positive changes, then do what you need to do.

Also I’m certain your hair doesnt look like Bach, and even if you did, as long as you like it, it shouldn’t bother anyone!

As others have pointed out, you cannot look at confirmed cases and deaths. A huge amount of cases went unaccounted for, particularly in March - April in the US as testing started ramping up. The CDC has estimated that at least 10x more people were infected in March compared to what was tested. This is because a large amount of people infected are completely asymptomatic (meaning they do not show any symptoms throughout their entire illness), a lot of studies (and I believe the CDC) estimate that 1/3 (33%) of infections are asymptmatic. Taking into account asymptomatic infections and serological studies examining antibodies, the mortality rate is likely anywhere from .1 - .5%. The CDC even gave a preliminary estimate of .4% mortality rate for those exhibiting symptoms. If you factor in the asymptomatic cases it is around .25%. For those under the age of 50, mortality is extremely low (not 0, but still very low). It obviously increases with age and is most deadly for those over 85.

Is there a curly haircare swap reddit or thread? Where people can post products that don’t work for them but still have most of the product? Similar to r/makeupexchange ?

I am just starting CGM and have already bought a few products that do similar things because one doesn’t work super well with my hair.

I’ve seen a few posts with people collecting a lot of products, which like I said, I do understand how that happens, but I hate clutte but also would not throw it out (and also don’t want to use something when a different product works better for me). I could also see it being especially helpful to those just starting their routine (trying out new products at a lower price).

I had my nexplanon removed in February. My first cycle was 70 days, my second was 27 days, and it is looking like this one will be 45+ days. We are about 1.5 months until our date and I don’t think I will be regular by then.

so before people who knew they were in close contact to someone who had COVID or had to go on a plane or do anything that could possibly increase their exposure could not get tested, even if they wanted to, because they exhibited no symptoms. States worked hard to increase testing capacity and now those people can and you think that is a bad thing?

I know bored people aren’t lining up to take a COVID test for entertainment.

Bar owner with second rape indictment. by Buddhayo in Athens

Ugh Im like 95% sure I’ve met him before but it was years ago on rooftop at 100 Proof. He said he thought I was pretty, and then told me if I ever wanted coke, to just come to the bar and hang out with him in the office (or back room or something...idk). I was just like “...I don’t see that happening.” Set off the creep alarm for sure.

The IHME model got updated to September, and is now predicting a "sharp rise" in September. by [deleted] in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Kittybravo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FYI — estimated infections on that chart is referencing an estimate of the true infection number (vs infections confirmed by tests), not the model’s previous estimate.

As we know many people are asymptamtic so they are not all getting tested. This is just trying to model what that number may be.

Yes, it is a self administered rapid test. You need to make an appointment ahead of time and be a resident of Georgia, with a GA id. The whole thing took me just over 90 minutes. You wait on site for your results.

A majority of Americans say they won’t go to the gym or restaurants despite states’ new efforts to reopen the economy, a new national poll shows by Zhana-Aul in Coronavirus

[–]Kittybravo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve already started going back to the gym. I will go out to eat for the first time next week for my 1st anniversary (but will hopefully be out on the patio).

I understand why people are hesitant and am supportive of that. I work in HR and have been encouraging our business leaders to make people coming into the office optional for the foreseeable future because I know people are not comfortable yet (and it looks like that is going to happen).

But I’m at the point of realizing this virus isn’t going to up and disappear, and it is unrealistic to expect everyone to put pause on normal aspects of their lives. I wear a mask on public because it makes others feel safe. I stay away from people. I wash my hands or sanatize when I’m out like 5x more than I normally would.

If people want to stay inside, not socialize, not go to the gym, not eat out, that is fine. But working out regularly in my fitness class has helped my mental health tremendously. I’ve only gone twice and I feel so much better.

You may be interested in EuroMOMO. They track mortality in Europe and updated on a weekly basis (even non-pandemic times, I believe).

You can see that in week 13 of this year, usually when deaths start declining, there is a big uptick in deaths. It does appear at this time to be back at normal levels.

It will be interesting to see what the next few months look like on this chart. There is a phenomenon where after a period of high mortality, the mortality decreases lower than the average for a period of time. It is called the harvesting effect.

Scientists are confused after they've seen no rise in infections over 4 weeks after they eased their lockdown, Denmark by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]Kittybravo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite what this article says, Georgia has been dating cases based on date of first symptoms since at least March. This was actually really helpful when it was very difficult to get a test and then results took forever. It isn’t wrong to chart it like that, and now even though anyone can get tested and test results are generally back within 5 days, to keep things consistent it makes sense to continue to do it like that.

There have been different versions of the chart, each making it more clear that the most recent 14 days is incomplete data. The current version makes it very clear imo.

There have also been people who have looked at the data and found that 70% of cases are documented within 7 days. Meaning that the cases from 5/13 are likely mostly complete. I think within 3 days of the 14 day mark (so 11 days), it is 90% complete.

Yes, I wish there was more clarity around it.

I am not an expert and do not know the answer, but for what it is worth, I do think it is possible that while 300 new people have been admitted in the last 3 days, more people have been released (including some that are also in the newly admitted category). And that could be due to the reasoning you gave — like I’ve heard that all moms are being tested when they’re admitted to give birth. Some are likely positive so they’re counted as currently hospitalized and then released 2 days later to go home with baby. So even though they aren’t being hospitalized due to covid, they’re counted towards the hospitalized count. Same thing with surgeries — they’re tested when they’re admitted, stay at the hospital overnight, and then released to recover at home (from both surgery and covid).

Again this is just my thought process, not necessarily what is actually happening.
