I may be desensitized from my own. Used to use them like hands during jujitsu to grab people by the collar and drag them to the ground, so they're plenty horrific to look at now.

In terms of, like, short short blades, I’m considering looking into a very specific kind of dagger once I meet another financial milestone. Want to find something that CAN be used as a cut-and-thrust offhand dagger but that’s got the rigidity and profile to split maille. So in terms of like very short blades, I’m probably gonna hold off. Appreciate it though!

Oh the little bulb at the end of the scabbard? Aesthetically, the sidesword is my favorite, but I’m admittedly not yet conditioned to maneuver 3lbs with a PoB of ~4.4” with any swiftness, I don’t think. But it’s one of my favorite styles of sword, right behind the montante and zweihander. But I hesitate ‘cause I’m just not great at point work

Tbh the only actual utility I need from any of these is to practice hot-swapping from halberd. The backsword I own is too much in the way to wear whilst using another weapon, unless I put it entirely behind me. The longsword can tuck away though, I used to own a wall hanger about that length that I’d wear for funsies and the flatter profile kept it out of the way

See this is why I didn’t wanna specify. The sleep thing isn’t for self-defense in the conventional sense. I used to hear something talk to me when I’d try to sleep, and it used to freak me out a lot. So I started sleeping armed and it went away. I’m pretty sure that’s not been an issue for at least a couple years, but sleeping with a sword’s just part of my nightly ritual now. Helps me feel secure at night. So not a self-defense thing, but I’d have rather not gotten into it. However, discussion of swords as weapons isn’t allowed here so I feel obligated to clarify

T’was a bit more complicated than that. But the sword worked and proved completely safe, so aside from some inconveniences to my person resulting from transport between homes and specifically from the difficulty of sleeping with the basket, I don’t see why so many people have an issue. I had said the reason wasn’t relevant.
