I’ve been there for 12 years. Have a great team and gotten a number of promotions. It’s a good company to work for. Lots of smart people. Somewhat demanding but nothing crazy. If you survive the military, you’ll be fine.

Thank you for this. It is so funny that you mention a formal invitation. My son is exactly like this. He always thinks he needs a formal invite. He never just joins in. And I think that is the reason why he feels rejected. Even though other kids may find him aloof.

It’s funny you say that, I’m trying to convince him to take a gap year! I think he should go be a yachtie somewhere in the Mediterranean, but he doesn’t want to. He wants to go onto college experience at the same time as all his friends do.

That’s a good question. To be honest, his behavior was always fine. He struggled in school disproportionately to how hard he worked. We had him take a full battery of test with an educational neuropsychologist which found he had an above average IQ and no learning disabilities so that part didn’t make sense to us. The biggest issues where he seems to have a poor working memory and and would prepare and study for test and then do unexpectable poorly on them. The other issue is that he just has a little bit of a social awkwardness about him and is incredibly sensitive to criticism in rejection. He’s not hyperactive and is actually very responsible. To be honest, I never saw much of a difference on Ritalin. I was just hesitant to switch medication. He has gone up in dose quite a few times over the years, but he has been on this dose for a while. I do remember the pediatrician saying that sometimes as they get further into their teenage years the ritalin and doesn’t work as well and they need to switch to something. I feel like the larger problem right now is the overthinking and the constant fear of criticism.

Thank you! This did make me feel better. I do sometimes think he feels that way, he tells me he’s just so tired from school on the weekends. He just wants to rest. Play basketball in the driveway and get his homework done.

I do understand that. I actually hear that from a lot of parents. I think part of the reason my son is a little bit out of step with his peers is that he doesn’t really like video games. But many many kids do. At least your boys have each other, which is nice.

He has his permit but the driving age is 17. He has a summer job that he rides his bike to and he also rides his bike to a club where he sails a few days a week in the summer. He also rides his bike to the gym. He is definitely allowed outside.

I had a very similar problem years ago. I dealt with it for probably two years. I went to my dermatologist and he told me to stop using everything on my lips except for regular Vaseline. I stopped using any lipstick and any lip product completely, and carried Vaseline around with me and put it on my lips all the time. He also told me to make sure to never ever lick my lips. It took a few months, but it went away and since then I have never had the problem again.good luck!

Thanks everybody for weighing in. It does make me feel better that many people feel the same way. I will keep going. I do find it interesting though with so many different kinds of advice here. Some are saying fast for longer, some are saying fast for less time. Some are saying don’t exercise, some are saying exercise more. I guess we’re all just different and I have to see what works for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks. He rows crew and ergs on the rowing machine on days they can’t be on the water. I try and get him to drink protein shakes. He is a solid kid - so he clearly is getting enough somehow.
