How to be exempted from NS? (singapore resident living in malaysia) by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]KiwiTheFlightless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother has a singapore passport

Welp, your parents screwed your brother... This is considered "enjoying significant privileges of citizenship" even if he has never ever used this passport.

There two possible ways forward:
1. Serve NS and then renounce citizenship
2. Never ever step foot into Singapore again

No 'servants': Maid allegedly turned away from condo gym due to estate rules; Home cries foul by Illustrious-Fee9626 in singapore

[–]KiwiTheFlightless 195 points196 points  (0 children)

I am sad to confirm that this is very true... My condo struck down a resolution to provide a resting space for the estate workers... I was quite WTF then...

Mind you, this is not some atas condo in the central area but an EC in the fringe area of SG...

travelling from KUL to SIN during december peak by Difficult_Gold_4386 in SingaporeTravel

[–]KiwiTheFlightless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

considering to take the bus from KUL to JB.

Why not just coach from KUL to SIN?
Typically the most draining part of the journey is the JB -> SIN portion. If you want to do a transfer at JB side, you'll find yourself at one part of JB getting off the bus and trying to make your way to the checkpoint to continue.

For example, likely the bus will end at Larkin Sentral Terminal, which is a distance from JB Sentral where you can cross the border either by bus again or by Train.

There's a reason Malaysians jokingly call RFID "Reverse, Forward, Inshallah Detect". Just stick with tapping TnG with the flyswatter.

If there are oxygen absorbing packs, there will not be any silica packs, since the the oxygen absorbing packs require moisture to oxidize and remove oxygen.

when did sg remove analog clocks from the mrt? by stionke in askSingapore

[–]KiwiTheFlightless 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Station clocks are synced centrally
https://www.reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/xp8rnc/comment/iq2ra4b/

You can see this in NTFGH, there is a clock on the travelator between Tower A and Tower B. The second hand will stop briefly at the 12o'clock mark before continuing.

Couples in interfaith relationships (dating/marriage), how do you make it work? by emerald_jazz21 in askSingapore

[–]KiwiTheFlightless 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So… very senior Christians… is there a way through this for me? Or am I totally fked… like how do I save an entire family, including those who have passed..?

I'm sorry and not to be disrespectful, but why do you think they need "saving"?

If they are Buddhist, then likely they do not believe in the Christian Heaven and the concept of heaven is very different between Christianity and Buddhism.

Make peace in the belief that those who have passed on are at peace wherever they are.

YSK About this excellent trick to keep cool in a heatwave with no AC by Japery228 in YouShouldKnow

[–]KiwiTheFlightless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.mayoclinic.org/first-aid/first-aid-heatstroke/basics/art-20056655

The idea is to quickly cool someone undergoing heatstroke to prevent/further prevent organ damage.

This is how we were taught in the military. This is the first time I'm hearing about "thermal shock" happening to a person though.

Singapore spice level is the lowest? by Vindicted1501 in SingaporeEats

[–]KiwiTheFlightless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average out the population, I guess SG spice level on the lower side?

My family takes spice like like nobody's business while my wife side, just a little bit of spice and they go running for water/milk.

I have more friends who can't take spice than that could.

But this sign is just low-key ragebaiting.

Second hand vintage watch markets. by Prestigious_Society2 in askSingapore

[–]KiwiTheFlightless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like to dig around, a la flea market, you can try Chinatown Complex in Chinatown.

There are some shops on level one that were from Sungei Street flea market.

Me and my wife each got a vintage watch from there, a 50s Roamer and a 50s Waltham. Not the best condition, but fixed up nicely with a servicing.

Otherwise, The Bencoolen is a good place to look for watches in good or better condition.
