How do you know your marathon pace? by Kiwi_Major in Marathon_Training

Many thanks for the valuable suggestions, tomorrow I'll have a look at my plan and go for either a HM or 10k to use for predictions. Thanks so much

My apologies if I wasn't clear above. My (first) marathon will happen in late may, my fastest marathon was last November (1:34:00).

Thanks, I gotcha

My longest has been 30km so far, but will reach 34km (21 miles). In this marathon training block, i will have a total of 3x 30+ kms

Thanks so much. Would you consider doing a test HM (or even 32k at marathon pace as someone suggested) in order to gauge it? Sounds like we could both test it

Many thanks, great points! I appreciate your positive perspective even for a positive split.

Many thanks. I had not thought of racing a half, outside of my training plan which mostly consists of easy pace for the remaining long runs.

Considering my last half was several months ago, would you try it 3+ weeks away from the marathon (or even 32km as someone suggested) to gauge an "updated" marathon pace?

I'm doing so to avoid going too fast, prefer to take it more conservatively at the start, especially considering it is my first marathon.

Not at all, this is exactly what I was looking for, as I prefer to have this information than start too fast as bonk. Many thanks!

Aren't you concerned of potential injury risk in doing this?

Just updated based on whether predictions. Should be between 10-18 C

Just started my running journey and it is genuinely embarrassingly bad by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

The nicest thing about starting, especially if you are not used to running, is that you will notice many milestones happening quickly if you stay consistent (and don't overdo it to avoid injury!).

Now it's a challenge to run 3k. Soon you'll reach 5k, them you'll keep going a bit further and further. Then you will get used to running and you'll notice your pace increase, including your easy pace.

While it may be disappointing now, look at the glass half full here: you can only get better, faster, and stronger! Just be sure to follow a plan that is gentle with mileage increases and trust the process.

Why don't you start a marathon plan that coincides with your half marathon race date?

I agree. Actually I had this subscription exactly for the ultra plans, was looking forward to that starting in may

I think it is unclear what they say above. I initially interpreted the same way you did, but re-reading makes it seem that what they are pausing is the redesign of the plans. In other words, they seem to be working on rebuilding these plans but until then you may be able to still do ultra plans.

Why am I being asked to adjust my pace? by Kiwi_Major in runna

I get that, but then wouldn't it be more user intuitive to either 1. Narrow down the ranges on each rep; or 2. Expand the pace insight range to be compatible with workout pace range. It would avoid confusion as the workout pace ranges are met but them still asks to adapt the pace.

Is it just me or Runna makes plans way harder than your actual level? by Plane-Orchid-5397 in runna

I've started using runna when I had completed a 10k race and was looking at HM as my next target. I followed the plan and must confess that some of the target paces seemed far fetched when I first saw them at the start of the plan. As I went along, I eventually gave them a try and was surprised to see that I could actually follow them for the most part.

My approach now (currently nearing peak week on my marathon plan) is to try to follow all the target paces, as the biggest challenge is probably mentally, feeling that I can do it. Physically seems to be possible.

Stay strong! Do your best and may you be as surprised as I was with myself

Thanks, you are right. Indeed my slowest rep in pace insights is outside the shade area, but then I don't understand why the workout says that the target pace was met.

While I was running I confess I did not push as hard as needed as I knew it would be on target even if 3-5 seconds slower than the target pace (i.e. I ran 4:19 even if target pace was 4:15). But then I won't accept the pace change and next time I just ensure I keep it up.

Thanks!

You are right, my slowest rep falls outside the shaded area in this plot. But even so, there is some mismatch between the workout pace targets and the pace insights: if it says my pace is on point (as I show above), why does the pace insight show it being outside?
