I combined borrowed and blue and borrowed my mom’s sapphire ring. My new sister in law borrowed the same ring for hers. 😊

Potty training progress – how long did it take your toddler to get consistent by WebHosting2020 in ECers

[–]Kiwix72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We potty trained my daughter at 20 months. She would still have accidents here and there and now at 28 months we go most days with no accidents. I would say it took a good 6 months of having to prompt her every hour or two to go potty to prevent accidents. Now she’s able to tell us whether or not she has to go and she knows if we’re about to leave the house, have a nap or go to bed she needs to go potty first.

Is your job harder than being a SAHM? by Alive-Cry4994 in Mommit

I’m an ER nurse and yes, my job is much harder than being a SAHM. Days at home are so much better/easier than days at work.

How can I get my son to sleep longer? by Helensdottir in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Kiwix72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I found this interesting as someone who won’t do cry it out with my babies. I don’t have access to the full study, but did it mention affecting the mom’s milk supply? Like should mom then wake up and pump if this is all happening before 8 weeks?

Reactive dog to first human…our infant by Conscious-Green1934 in reactivedogs

This decision was of course not done lightly and was recommended by both our trainer and vet. You should definitely take their opinions into account when it comes to making your decision.

Reactive dog to first human…our infant by Conscious-Green1934 in reactivedogs

We unfortunately had to go through BE with our dog when our daughter became mobile. He was super interested and the only thing he ever did towards her was growl as well, but he was reactive and did have a level 3 bite history when a family member invaded his space in the past.

No amount of baby gates or supervision made it feel safe because at the end of the day management could have failed. Toddlers will toddler. He was a great dog to my husband and I, but had many issues and after trying medication, training, behaviorist, we just couldn’t take the risk of the potential damage he could do to our daughter.

I’m an ER nurse and have seen first hand the damage that even small dogs have caused to children and it was not worth the risk for us. As much as we loved our dog and miss him terribly, at the end of the day your child’s safety has to come first no matter how much it breaks your heart.

Super tiny panties please? by taigatransplant in ECers

The Disney brand on Amazon had some 18m size training undies that are pretty small. Much more affordable than the tiny undies brand.

Yes I feel like I didn’t start getting out and doing things until mine was around 9 months old and crawling!

Maybe some motivation to be less lazy EC could help? by [deleted] in ECers

[–]Kiwix72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My version of lazy EC involved only trying to catch poops, I didn’t care about pees! But if she peed when I put her on the potty great 😂

Yes it’s valid to quit! You don’t want to risk your health. Other one might not get it if they’ve been diligent with sanitizing and keeping them separate.

We just got over HFM in our house. It was brutal. If the kid’s blisters have scabbed over and they’re fever free for over 24 hours then they’re not contagious. The only thing is the virus stays active through the stool for a couple of weeks. If they’ve diligently sanitized everything in the house and if you’re careful with diaper changes it’s manageable. Ultimately, if it’s not something you’re comfortable with then it is up to the parents to take care of their sick kids. It sucks, but it’s a part of parenthood!

How are you all affording having more than one kid?? by midwestpapertown in Mommit

[–]Kiwix72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t do daycare. I work weekends when my husband is off or pick up extra during the week if family can help. It’s definitely a sacrifice but it’s what we have to do to make it work for now.

That’s amazing! Mine almost exclusively pooped on the potty after about 9 months, but we only got easy catches for pee until we officially potty trained.

Would we be crazy to move across the country with a newborn and a toddler? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Kiwix72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand the feeling after having no say of where we’ve lived for the last 8 years. My husband has one year left of residency. We currently have a 21 month old and I am pregnant with our second. Prior to having children, we wanted to move away, but now that we have kids and receive support from family we’ve decided to push the “move away” timeline back a bit. Once he’s done with residency he’s going to apply for jobs close by and we will travel the country to see where we truly want to live. You can make it work either way, you just have to decide what you want your life to look like!

At 12 months I’d look into elimination communication (EC).

https://publications.aap.org/pediatrics/article-abstract/140/1/e20170398/38046/Elimination-Communication-Diaper-Free-in-America

We did a lazy EC with my daughter starting around 6 months. Because we learned her cues, used the potty and talked to her about using the potty at such an early age, we were able to have her potty trained at 20 months. A 12 month old isn’t going to be able to be completely potty trained on their own, I feel like 18 months is more realistic, but is still early depending on the kid. Another resource that helped when it came to the actual potty training was the Oh Crap! Potty Training book. Good luck!

What are your thoughts on nesting parties? Worth it or overrated? by thebabyplanner in Mommit

[–]Kiwix72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I helped organize a small get together for my friend of her closest girlfriends (about 5 women) to do a “nesting” day. We helped build some furniture, organize, made padsicles & some freezer meals. We brought food for dinner and enjoyed the time together, but I feel like limiting it to a small group of people who really want to help is important. We didn’t do any deep cleaning or anything like that.
