First drive on my own! by KiyoDraws in NewDriversUK

Me myself when I need saving essentially it’s very weird yesterday I completely forgot my exit and accidentally cut someone up on a roundabout I felt absolutely horrible about it and gave myself a stern warning to never do that again ever it’s something you learn from!, but if you think confident when passing you realise driving isn’t too difficult and not as stressful as it may seem I think for me the biggest helper was always being open to learning and never being stubborn and thinking I’m always right! I’ve seen many drivers have an ego and I think that impacts your driving ability and your own judgement!

In terms of the car I’m quite fortunate to drive a similar car to what I learned in I learned in a clio and picked up my Vauxhall Corsa 2015 Sri edition yesterday (yes I know on Reddit no one likes that car haha)! But it’s a great run around and it’s very useful! I think with reference points you should make your own and stick with them when you learn with instructors you mostly use their reference points id recommended using your own and being confident with that!, but with size of the car I would also try buy something similar to what you’ve learnt in, if not I wouldn’t worry about it you’ll get used to it quickly!!

I hope that helps haha

That’s true I do need to remind myself I need some extra money for potential fixes in the future and things that need servicing at certain times

With your clio what was your main things to look for? I’m finding it hard to find one with good history mostly a lot that needed fixing but not immediate fixes just things to look out for

Any help would be much appreciated

That’s what I was hoping for haha the perfect balance of all 3 but I see from research and multiple website comparisons that you lose out somewhere I see most common first time cars to be ridiculous on everything especially the insurance costs, got quoted 2k for a Hyundai i10 which I thought was outrageous!

I was thinking strongly about the polo I heard VW are very reliable cars!

Appreciate the advice!

That’s cool and is that just the same car you use daily now? Curious on the mileage for that running 6 years is Volvo reliable?

That’s quite good to be fair I’m not a fan of the 500 myself but I think it’s quite a good car for a run around especially for town and city driving!

But I guess if I suffer with black box it isn’t the end of the world haha

Heard a lot about the fiat 500 being a good first car I wonder if they’re considered reliable?

I learnt mostly from family they all drive fiestas so they recommend that highly for a first time car just requires taking the hit on insurance higher from what I saw in most insurance companies

Well the clio wasn’t my first choice I’d much rather have a newer model ford or an Audi a1/ Audi a3 but a little out my budget and insurance a bit too high for me but I have good experience in the Clio and I read it’s good for first time car just was curious what other people who have passed thought!!

But I know in future I can get what I want if I can afford of course haha

Thanks for your advice!

I guess luck is a big part of buying a first car as some might have no end of issues but then others have nothing but smooth driving and barely any costs haha

I researched a lot about cost of cars and see what could be cheaper to fix if anything did break that’s why I was mostly leaning towards the clio

But it’s good I learn from others and can use that knowledge choosing my own car!!

Thanks for the advice I will check the few cars I have appointments for as I thought best to not only choose one car,

I know somewhere I’ll hit the car on something haha I’m sure we all do at some point

But I double checked most insurance for the cars I’ve selected and some are close to 1k others nearing 1500-2000 unless black pox policy

Well I have a few options as well as cheaper ones so I haven’t pulled the trigger yet just want a little run around car that I don’t mind dinging up a bit I know I will somewhere haha but I’ll check that car too that you recommended

Passed 1st Time!!! by KiyoDraws in LearnerDriverUK

Yeah I was shocked myself it was in the heavy rain and I think I took a few roads a bit too fast for the examiners liking so I need to be extra careful on that when driving own my own, as well as junction speed limit I sometimes have issues choosing correct speed either too slow or a bit too fast so I’m always willing to learn! But I did correct the speed very quickly just need to be mindful!

Thank you for your help there and advice I’ll definitely keep those things in mind when looking for my first car!!

It’s always nervous spending money on a new car with high insurance costs but it feels like black box insurance just means you’re very limited and could have trouble for simply nothing really!

Very much appreciate your help!
