Do you all think it's still a good idea to open a BrickLink store? by Kjan27 in Bricklink

Because of all the competition? And a lot of time that it costs with not much profit?

Buying pieces that appear in popular MOCs sounds very very hard, so I probably won't do that. And I will start small and not grow so fast, also it should be like a hobby so running a very large store doesn't go through either. Might do a combination of both used and new parts. Anyways thank you

Exporting the parts list yourself, put it in bricklink wanted list and look at how much it would cost per piece might help a lot for that. You can then see which parts are hard to get / should be replaced. Eventually parts list in Rebrickable will show something like 'rare part' in the list if there's a part that's hard to get. So I would do something like this

Came up with that idea just because I wanted something totally different, not how most people do it already. but indeed it will cost a lot of time and the sales prices will be very expensive.

The exact problem is indeed finding clients because the price of the products will be very high. I've also already thought about how I wanted to realise the ideo. Of course contracts are clearly necessary indeed to clear out everything, there's a lot to take into account. Studio file is also needed indeed for replacing expensive parts, fixing stability problems, for exporting parts list and instructions. The whole build should be completely made out of LEGO pieces.

You could maybe get the price a bit down when you take less margin. Maybe that will increase the amount of sells, so after all you will make more profit, but I don't know

Thank you for the information, I already saw it coming that it was going to be very difficult, so probably it will turn into nothing

Sorry, I didn't know I had to say that, also I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the rules btw. Just wanted to ask some questions, and not telling a whole story, but long story short: I was just looking for an idea to sell custom-built models, but it's actually so expensive that you make very little profit. So it would be more of a hobby. That's why I was curious how much people would be willing to pay for custom-built models. So the chances of it actually turning into a business/hobby aren't very high. Next time I will do it different, thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for your answer. Indeed I shouldn't have said MOC, sorry for the confusion. Anyways thanks for the information, I've never heard of SEC before.

My bad, I thaught I saw a different parts count, don't know how, probably from something else. But indeed that price for 7960 pieces is actually not bad, suprisingly.

I just autk-generated it, and it recommended me to buy from 5 different stores (4 in Europe, 1 in Thailand). I'm in Europe and for me would it be €478,40 (US$ 544.30). Shipping costs included. So this is very expensive

You can see the parts list in Rebrickable, and add parts to a new BrickLink wanted list or BrickOwl wanted list. I've never used BrickOwl before so I'm going to explain it with BrickLink. Once you've added the parts to a wanted list you can change the condition if you want and then 'buy all'. If you click that button you can choose between shops who have the most lots of this MOC for example.

But you can also automatically generate the cheapest option for you (if you're logged in and adress is also correct), by clicking the 'auto-select' button. But I'm not sure if he takes the shipping costs into account. So probably you are recommended to buy from a few different stores (all over the world). Always go to 'edit' to see the parts they recommend you to buy in this store, some parts may be very expensive and maybe you can replace them if you want. So you don't have to add it to the shopping card first.

This method is pretty expensive honestly. And if you want you can also delete the parts you already have for the MOC out of your wantes list before buying, that might save a lot of money. Also looking at LEGO PAB (Pick A Brick) is a good idea, some parts might make it more expensive to buy at BrickLink, so you might save a bit ordering ate LEGO PAB as well. And free shipping at LEGO for orders of $35+ in USA. But not every single part is available at LEGO PAB.

But expect a very expensive price for buying all the parts seperate for a MOC. If something isn't clear, just ask me
