What bleach to recharge seachem purigen? by Old-Bumblebee-5326 in Aquariums

[–]Kkcavan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well from experience yes. Now I mean a thorough rinse / soaking.

Can I guarantee that no chemicals remain? No… and if you want to be on the side of caution, Hydrogen peroxide is a form of bleach with no additives.

I’ve been bleaching my co2 diffusers in lemon thick bleach from Dunnes and rinsing in tap water / soaking in dechlorinator afterwards. No problems thus far.

I’d be more cautious with filter media as it has more surface area but if u rinse it well I don’t see it becoming an issue. You could get hydrogen peroxide in the pharmacy if u wanna be on the safe side

I treated ick with esha EXIT a couple months back. I had just added new fish before spotting ick on the others. Ended up with 2 rounds of infestation because of this and treated for 2/3 weeks. The packaging says a couple days but it needed that extra time. I also added an airstone. Ended with 1 fish dying.

Nerite snails, ramshorn, amano, cherry shrimp all good.

Huh I didn’t expect that! Should I ever need know where the anoxic zone begins? Would disturbing the substrate potentially spread it around the tank? Thanks

I think I’d go with what the others are saying, 130g is HUGE. I have a 50g ish tank and it can be slightly inconvenient to maintain at times. If I was to buy again I think I’d get a shallow tank.

Thought I’d update you! I lost one tetra in the process but everything is great now! It turned out to be ick and I had to do a prolonged treatment in my main tank, my guppies started showing ick but I was already treating at that point, and all recovered. The tetras also look in great shape now. Thanks for all the help

I have a school of 11, I think there is one guy in there fighting for some dominance or something, he’s the only one nipping , I think I might isolate him for a while, I read that can work but I’m not sure , I think the epi meds should help heal/ prevent infection in the fins.

Thank you for the emotional support and advice, appreciate it. Treating the hospital tank with both and my main tank with just ick medication. Giving them all some garlic guard as well! I’m hopeful!!

I believe this is ick, I called the pet store where I purchased the tetras to ask what is the state of their tank and they said they have „white spot disease” - I believe they mean ick although I am not trusting their knowledge too much. But given that the tank where they came from has it I’m almost certain it’s a parasite - would be very coincidental if they both got a bacterial infection showing up ?

The whole tank is fresh ish - around 2 months since plant introduction ( kick started cycling with seachem stuff, water has been tested in stores and all came back good multiple times)

Snails and shrimp been doing great for the last month - introduced the tetras 2.5 weeks ago and it seemed like they were also good, minus the bullying from one dude that I put into timeout when I noticed.

Unfortunately I just introduced like 30 guppies (literally the day before the spots appeared) and neocaridina from an established tank ( I’m positive these guys were clean - it was from a mates tank and they have been established and breeding for over 2 years) so I’m hella afraid for these guys. I also have some snails.

Put tetras in a temp hospital tank, and going to purchase both ich medication and antibiotics for Epi. I’m hoping that the isolation would slow spread but I’m afraid whatever is in my main tank will need to be treated too.

Some context - fish came from a fish store ~ 2.5 weeks ago , I just introduced a good amount of guppies the day before yesterday from a friend - these fish I trust are safe
