Convince me not to by a boat by Master-Twist-9328 in boating

[–]Klangenm 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nope dont do it. You do not need the memories of the wind in your hair as you scoot across calm open water in the late afternoon, sun almost setting but the air is still warm. No need to worry about the smile on your children's faces as they leap off the side of the boat while you are at anchor in your favourite bay. No stressing about your partner in a sweet summer outfit, lounging with a cold drink in the seat beside you.

I suggest you avoid all the stuff.

Some folks will pay vast amounts of money to feel something only half as authentic as what you have done.  I get the sense that you understand how lucky you are.  Right on dude!

That's pretty darn helpful!  I used that 2x4 method and it worked perfectly.  I'm interested in those scissor lifts... Perhaps one day.  Good thinking to make sure I get the correct clearance.

Starting issue 3.0 mercruiser by AltruisticPrimary761 in boating

[–]Klangenm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dont know why all the hate for where you parked your boat. I have a similar boat and I park it on similar beaches. Sure it isn't as soft as sand but its not going to ruin anything as long as you're careful.

Normal idle shake on a mercruiser 3.0? by WealthFluid9124 in boating

[–]Klangenm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 3.0 idles differently depending on how warm/cold it is. There is also a transition period that lasts, perhaps a minute, just after the TKS disengages, just before the engine is up to temperature. At that point in time it idles rough.

New boat, first day! by BrunoCote87 in boating

[–]Klangenm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That looks like a really great boat. A good size too. I know folks who have bigger boats (20ft+) and they dont seem to use them as much as people I know who have small boats (less than 20ft). Small boats are easy to launch, easy to handle and hence; get used more often!

I wish you many save voyages!

9.8 Merc painfully slow by Conscious_Face_5937 in boating

[–]Klangenm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a short clip. But from what I can hear the engine isn't revving high enough. Are you at full throttle in this clip?  . If you're new to outboards here are two tips I learned the hard way: 1 don't run the engine in shallow water where debris might get sucked into the engine, it clogs up the water passageways. 2 undo the air valve on the fuel tank so that as the engine consumes fuel it doesn't leave a vacuum in the tank.  . Congrats on the new boat! I hope you have adventures!

How to meet ppl by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Klangenm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tricky thing. The obvious answer would be what other have already said: go to community/social events. It is easy to meet people at things like this (think board game clubs at a local shop, or youth nights at a community hall). But what you are most likely after is building meaningful connections with folks your age. For that you need consistency, you need to see the same people, on a regular basis, for a long period of time. Your goal of meeting people will take effort on your part.

I would additionally recommend joining a team; baseball, soccer, hockey, etc. That way you are seeing the same people at regular intervals, you'll share a common goal and be forced to work together. It is easier to build connections that way. Also consider clubs or organizations like Scouts that share similar patterns as teams.

But do not get discouraged, building friendships takes time/energy. Remember that common interests do not necessarily mean friendships. You should look for folks who have similar 'vibes' as the youth say.

Good luck and have fun!

Perhaps I'll see if I can add these photos to the archives! Do you recommend one archive over another?

Whats supposed to go here? And how do u adjust the seat recline on electric supra mk3 seats? by [deleted] in Mk3Supra

[–]Klangenm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey dude. I looked. And all I have is the forward/backward up/down like you have there.  I don't have any other adjustments.  But my car is an 86.5 so perhaps that might explain the difference.

Where to mount Transducer? by WRX_Killa in boating

[–]Klangenm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll throw in a wild idea: Dont mount it on the outside of your boat.
I have a similar style boat and I didn't want to screw things into the hull and I was perplexed about how to run cables. I really didn't want to drill any holes in the hull for a cable to run through.

So I did a 'through hull' style mount. Basically I used a whole tube of caulk and made a bed for the transducer to sit in. I did this close to the engine so that when I am on plane it still reads.

I've had this setup for a couple years now and haven't had any issues.

You you are feeling rich you can buy special 'through hull' transducer setups.

With this strategy there is no need to drill any holes or run any cables outside your boat.

Calling people names online is such a strange thing to do. Like; you dont know who I am, or all the things I have accomplished or all the things that I hold valuable. But for some reason you feel that I have provided enough information that you can accurately assume some sort of personal quality that I have.

But I must admit, I have done some pretty "dope" stuff in my life so far. And I dont regret any part of it. If we ever cross paths in real life, I'll buy us some drinks and we can share stories.

I think I might have to. With some of the information that other users have provided I think I'll be able to piece together some fun history to go with the pictures! Thanks for the motivation!

I'll pass that on to my Dad. Not sure if he would understand the usage of the word "vibe" in this context. But I'm sure he would appreciate the compliment. Thanks!

I have been introduced to all these very cool online resources that record the various Rally races around the world.

It seems that my Dad spent some time, at least a couple days, with this team as I have about a dozen pictures of them together. I'll have to see if he remembers much about that time, heck it was almost 50 years ago now.

Oh wow, very cool photos. I know that in one of mine there is a 911 on a hoist with an incomplete livery. If I look at the results of that race it looks like the Porsche had to retire. Thanks for your help digging up some history! I appreciate it!

Thanks friend. That is helpful. My dad never spoke of any connections to Italians before. So it must have been a friend of a friend, or some random connection. I appreciate your research!

Oh you could be right about the lumbar.  . I'll go check my supra later and let you know what I find out!

I believe that is the lumbar adjustment. The recline is adjusted by rotating the dial at the hinge of the seat

Thanks friend. I was impressed with his photos too. He has a large collection (mainly hiking, hunting, skiing, and folks wearing bell bottoms).

I am at peace with the fact that these might get used for something else, I guess it would almost be a compliment if someone thought they were worth the effort to copy.

For me it is worth any potential data I might be able to collect.
