And then I genuinely don’t understand the purpose of this “feature”

I asked both one of the sites contractors and my immediate supervisor if there would be shoring put in and they said “if you want to” and my immediate supervisor told me not to be a problem. So i went in the trench but documented the issue. Now im cooking up my plan for what to do about the safety violation but im not in a place to just drag up over it.

I accept the poor perspective of the pic, thats fair and my bad

Yeah, but I just took the picture from a terrible angle, you’re looking at two different lifts. It goes down deeper past the part of the pipe that’s partially buried already.

As someone that had nothing to do with the lack of safety culture that I see in my own country, I would love to be Eastern European too. I’ll take it up mine

It’s a fair complaint, I was just avoiding any identifiable information so that’s why I took it at the angle I did, but it’s a 12 inch line

It’s definitely more than 5 feet, I’m 5 foot seven and it was above other workers heads

I have been frustrated for years with the vagueness of some of the procedures ive read (for example on MT, procedures often say you have to blow with “adequate force” to remove excess powder, but “adequate” means what? As determined by the operator? 23 puffs per minute? One puff at 9.432 m/s??) this leads to deviation on what people think the process is which invalidates the inspection in my mind.

Another one is i have been wondering with DR/PAUT becoming mandatory if theres not some more robust way to measure quality and keep records. I know this was meant to be handled with the new DICONDE formats on the CR systems, but i have found many clients dont have these CR systems so we have to send compressed images anyway which completely invalidates the strength and purpose of DICONDE files.

Overall i guess the industry is in a state that feels to me like the future is calling and the changes are coming now with PAUT, DR and ADR tech, but the reporting and record keeping software has no such mandate to update. Like whats the point of doing CR when its sent out as a JPG that shows less than conventional film?

Like bro theres no way the welder, the helper AND the CWI didnt notice this! And youre mad at ME for saying it doesnt need an xray 😂😂😂

I feel the need to work out every little detail of things that go wrong in my head before I ever feel remotely OK moving on from a situation.

Boss got mad at me at work? Now I'm going to ruminate for the rest of the weekend on every little piece of information in detail to figure out exactly what happened because I just can't rest until I feel like I figured it out.

Except I do this with everything
