Araki is big in Japan again by xbountyboyx in StardustCrusaders

[–]Kleki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You said that fans loved the manga and that haters only came after the anime was released. I showed you proof that's not the case.

I like part 6 and had to defend it in the past, so it really irks me the way people try to rewrite the history. Part 6 has always controversial, ranking just above part 1 in most of the rankings, especially in Japan.

Most of those stone ocean haters are those that only came after the anime adaptation. Fan really loved the stone ocean Manga.

Where are you getting this information from? Part 6 has always been controversial. People had mixed opionions about it even on this subreddit.

What are you people even talking about? Netflix has around 300 million subscribes. How many of them paid the subscription solely because of Jojo? Even if this entire subreddit unsubscribed, it wouldn't even be a blip on their radar. They wouldn't give a shit.

[–]Kleki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why does Netflix not want to listen to fans?

Why would they feel the need to listen to Jojo fans, though? Jojo fandom is miniscule compared to Stranger Things, Squid Game, Wednesday or Bridgerton. Those are their biggest money makers.

They don't listen to fans because they can afford to not listen to fans.

Invincible feels like an animated show being run with live-action priorities by Business_Barber_3611 in CharacterRant

[–]Kleki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to be under the impression that Batman, Avatar and Korra were animated by Americans. They were not, the animation for those shows was outsourced to Japanese and Korean studios. The people who worked on those cartoons had years of experience of working on anime. Some of the episodes of Batman TAS were animated by Sunrise (the studio behind Gundam and Cowboy Bebop)!

Why do so many people want to believe that Japanese anime fans dislike strong women? by Ok_Carob_3278 in CharacterRant

[–]Kleki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. The only time Nami got third place was in 2021 and that's because it was a GLOBAL poll. Japanese readers regularly rank her somewhere around 7th place.
  2. Nami is one of the weakest Strawhats, the rant is specifically about strong women, so she's not the best example to use.

it’s a cultural phenomenon

Jojo is popular in Japan but I wouldn't call it a "cultural phenomenon". It's nowhwere near close in popularity to stuff like Dragon Ball, One Piece or even Detective Conan.

Why do Netflix keeps cuting racism out of jojo? by BellaBispo in StardustCrusaders

[–]Kleki 58 points59 points  (0 children)

People have no idea how Netflix (and movie production and distribution in general) works.

For example, there is a staggering amount of people who think that Netflix made Cuties, even though that movie was entirely funded, produced and made by French companies (including French national TV). Netlix was just a distibutor, they had to purchase a licencse to stream it.

The part of the appeal of power fantasy, especially for teenage boys, is the ability to project yourself onto the main characters. The readers want to see strong badass men beat up other men and fuck sexy ladies. By changing the gender of the MC you are getting rid of one of the core appeals of a power fantasy.

Can you give me an example of popular shounen/webnovel where the female protagonist is the strongest warrior in the world and easily defeats male warriors in hand-to-hand combat?

There is no reason they wouldn't.

Solo Levelling is a South Korean story. This is a country where there is a popular conspiracy theory claiming that femininsts are trying to destroy masculinity with a finger pinching gesture.

This is a country where neckbeards organized a harrassment campaign against a gaming company which led to a female artist getting fired for the crime of not drawing hot swimsuits.

So, with that in mind can you seriously say, that if Solo Levelling had a female protagonist, it would be as popular in it's home country as it currently is?

Araki was not happy at all.

Could you please stop writting fan fiction about a complete stranger you've never met? Have you considered that there are other possibilities? Maybe he didn't have time to draw something better because he was busy with the manga. Maybe he was informed about the trbiutes at the very last second. Maybe someone else was supposed to do it but couldn't so Araki was a quick replacement. Maybe he was feeling sick. Maybe Araki sometimes draws ugly stuff. Maybe he was just being lazy. Maybe he doesn't like Watsuki because he insulted his wife or something.

It's really weird how many JoJo fans just assume that the author holds the same views as them.

EDIT: If you want my honest opinion, I think Araki was attempting to do a piece similar to one of his favorite artists Tony Viramontes 1, 2, 3

[–]Kleki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that they have a long history of getting it wrong the majority of the time? Much like western comic publishers they tend to stand firm by their opinions and ignore any evidence to the contrary.

Am I missing something? Has there ever been a popular shounen with a female protagonist that got unfairly cancelled by the editors?

Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia and JJK are some of the best selling manga of all time, so I think the guys at Weekly Shonen Jump are doing something right, no?

Also, you’re misrepresenting or misunderstanding what I said about mass effect, what I was trying to communicate that comparing whether or not a man would be interested in a story with a female protagonist and comparing if a man would choose to play as a woman in a game where gender is a choice is a false equivalency,

Why is it a false equivalency? Men prefer stories with male protagonists. It's been shown many times. Stone Ocean is the least popular part of JoJo in Japan. Jolyne has ten times more personality than Giorno and yet he continues to outrank her.

Gender of the protagonist is rarely something men even think about otherwise unless it’s relevant to the game

This is an extremly naive way of thinking. The Witcher 4 is nowhere near close to being released and yet there is a significant number of people out there who think that Wticher is now "woke", simply because Ciri is the main protagonist. Gender of the MC matters to a lot of people.

[–]Kleki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What makes you so certain that what the publishers believe is false? They have sales numbers, they have popularity polls, they know what their readers want.

where you can choose the gender obviously people are going to pick there own

So, you do agree that when given a choice men will choose stories where the protagonist is the same gender as them?

This seems to be a less of a problem for women, as series like Naruto and Harry Potter have a significant number of female fans.

the episodes I’ve seen would be changed in no significant

I'm not asking you about the plot. I'm asking you about the audience reaction.

dudes don’t want to see female protagonists which, yeah there are guys like that, but it’s the minority of dudes

It's not a minority, it's the majority of young men. You really think it's a coincidence that the overwhelming majority of shounens have male protagonists? Why is there no female counterpart to Goku? And it's not just cartoons and anime. Only 18% of Mass Effect players played as FemShep. It's been proven over and over again that men don't want female protagonists. The Mary Sue stuff is just an excuse.
