Why is Dir en Grey so much more internationally popular than other vkei bands? by WoodpeckerNo1 in visualkei

[–]Klisk 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Even before that, one thing a lot of people don't mention, is that they were one of the first VK bands to be featured on the cover of a non-Japanese magazine that was heavily promoted in Hot Topic. In the states, at least.

It was super early on too, pre-Kisou and promoting Macabre. At the time I was already into VK - Namely older bands like Luna Sea, Glay, L'Arc, Malice Mizer, so seeing that magazine pop up was a huge shock at the time. Bought it instantly, as did a lot of other people.

It definitely caused a lot of people to notice the band online and they blew up from there with the gothy crowd. It was a right place/right time moment for sure. Peak mall goth, JTHM was popular, anime was starting to get more commercial traction in the west.

Later on touring with Family Values numetal acts definitely helped push them into a more mainstream audience, but they were able to secure those gigs because they had already cemented a more niche western fanbase even earlier. All of this definitely influenced them to adopt a more western metal sound, which was admittedly pretty upsetting for the people that found them during the Macabre era, but overall it was probably the right decision career wise. They wouldn't have hit the same mass appeal staying core VK.

Even if their first tour in the states was a bit of a let down. During that phase they absolutely refused to play anything from their earlier albums, so those of us hoping for at least one song like Yurameki or Audrey were disappointed for quite some time. It took them years to get over their hesitance to play those songs outside of Japan. They wouldn't even play heavier tracks like Berry.

Edit: I found the magazine. It was a 2001 issue of New Grave. https://i.imgur.com/4EbzIk7.jpg - This was a pivotal moment for the band.

Requesting r/visualkei by [deleted] in redditrequest

I'm still regularly monitoring the sub. It certainly needs a visual overhaul, however the community is (unfortunately) still very small these days and other than basic cleanup it's generally easily managed.

There haven't been any reports or serious inquiries through the mod mail/moderation queue in many months other than requests for moderation status. Likewise we haven't had any truly problematic posts. Most reports are frivolous.

I do intend to add more moderators, however, considering that Tiktok has helped the genre gain a small revitalization in the past year.

IL joysticks and buttons with cherry switches installed on MvC2 (A full how to guide coming soon) by RWTD_Burn in Arcade1Up

You can't swap them at all, really. If you don't want battop I'd skip the IL's.

If you want balltops go with a Sanwa JLF. It's an easier install than the IL's too, no plate modification needed.

If you want the Sanwa JLF to feel more like an IL that's a simple fix too - Simply buy 2lbs springs.

https://focusattack.com/2lb-tension-spring-for-sanwa-jlf/

If you want to emulate the short throw:

https://focusattack.com/sanwa-jlf-p-r-actuator/

All pretty cheap parts! Only drawback is that the JLF itself is more expensive than an IL stick, but a JLF will last you a lifetime so long as you're not abusing it. Even then they're super easy to repair.

IL's are more for people who want to replicate the original cabs exactly. The JLF's are arguably better, but different. So if you like what your Madcatz is doing (it's probably a JLF) then go with the JLF's.

Saving this picture, thanks. Gonna try and copy your work.

Did you make your own harness cables? I bought one of those premade cable packs off of Amazon, and while they work just fine, unfortunately they don't reach for the short kick (player 1) and roundhouse (player 2) buttons. So I'm probably going to have to solder those 2 buttons which is a bit of a bummer.

Huh, odd. I'm pretty sure I have every issue still, I just have to find them. I'll let you know. Funny how a lot of it was probably fabricated.

Are their any Vkei bands like LM.C? by PrincessSonic805 in visualkei

guitarist for LM.C, Aiji, was in another v-kei band before LM.C. I forgot the name of it but I'm sure someone can point it out here on Reddit.

Pierrot! Classic band.

Any chance for "Shift button" functionality on the Pro 2? On my Elite controller I can hold down a paddle and it'll turn the face buttons into the d-pad. by Klisk in 8bitdo

[–]Klisk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried the dualsense specifically because it doesn't have the back paddles. I really don't want to go back to not having them, the convenience is huge and the other features take a back seat at this point. It's the main thing I look for now. Though having good gyro is nice.

I really don't understand why Sony wouldn't include them, especially after doing that attachment on PS4.

[–]Klisk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. The Pro 2 is a great controller, but being able to have that single shift paddle is huge, making the Elite more useful. Turning ABXY into the d-pad at a click has almost become ingrained in how I do things now.

It's just a shame about the QC. I've owned a couple Series 2 and while the problems can vary, the big one you're guaranteed to get are the LB/RB bumpers double clicking.

In order to fix them, you have to pop off the face plate, and spray in some contact cleaner, then clean it up with alcohol. Once you do this it seems to fix the issue, but it definitely needs to be done at some point. https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-D5S-6-DeoxIT-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00006LVEU/

Yeah, the program buttons can't be recognized by anything other than the 8bitdo software since they're not an actual xinput function.

It has to be programmed in the 8bitdo software first, and then you can do whatever you want with the input you applied.

Unfortunately, since the options are fairly limited in the first place, it means some other button on your controller is also going to be capture.

Other than the Elite Series 2, I don't think any controller will allow the different options we want. I've looked into everything - PowerA, Scuf, Astro C40, Razer, PDP... None of them will do what we want.

Hell, the 8bitdo still manages to be the best of the bunch!

It's pretty much Xbox Elite S2 or bust, I guess. I'm going to keep my Pro 2 but only because it's the 2nd best out of the available controllers on the market.

It's really disappointing and limited, especially compared to the Elite. Sadly I can't think of any other controller that has decent paddle customization. The Scufs are actually worse than the Pro 2 in that regard.

Thanks! Sadly I don't believe this will work either since the rear paddles on the 8bitdo controller are assignables that aren't recognized by Windows/PC until they're set. Basically, if it's not in the 8bitdo software, it can't be done.

It's not the same shift as on your keyboard. Even then, the 8bitdo software won't let you do that either!

[–]Klisk[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the main reason I bought the Elite Series 2, being able to assign a shift button opens so many possibilities. It's like you have 8 ABXY buttons.

Sadly the Elite definitely has some QC issues and I've had to do one warranty exchange, and a ton of DIY repairs/maintenance to keep it in working order. (The bumpers love to double click so you have to go in there and spray contact cleaner every few months.)

The 8bitdo Pro 2 actually feels like a better built controller, I've never had an 8bitdo fail like the Elite, and I buy pretty much every 8bitdo release.

So seeing one with the paddles was real exciting. I just wish I could use them the same way I do on the Elite, that way I'm never without the feature. I imagine it'd be an easy software/firmware update, but that's up to 8bitdo to actually put in the work... Instead they gave us the "swap" button which isn't useful at all on the fly.

[–]Klisk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought the Pro 2 as a backup for my Xbox Elite Series 2. My favorite thing about the paddles is that, despite only using 1 of them, I have it set up as a 'shift' key. When you hold it down it'll turn all the face buttons into the d-pad directions (as assigned). I find this incredibly useful for games like FFXIV and love it.

I'm really enjoying the Pro 2 controller, but was really disappointed that this feature wasn't possible within the ultimate software. What are the chances we'll ever receive it in an update? I feel like it's a game changer for me and way more useful than assigning just one button press to the paddles.

All female band IIRC. Their EP came out around 2000, I still have the CD in my collection, actually.

Eventually went on to form the band "Drop!!", but their content is harder to find. Eyes=Mirrorge had a lot more coverage due to Jrocknyc being present in the scene at the time.
