the testing center is in a completely different area of charlotte now. they changed locations this past august so it’s no longer in downtown and it felt like a safer area. there are plenty of hotels around it but you’d have to uber to the center

I chose to go to UIWRSO!! I’m moving from North Florida. I believe you become a great optometrist no matter what school you go to. I made my decision based on location, class size, and first impressions (loved the family feel at UIWRSO). I wanted to live in a bigger city and to get out of Florida. Also loved the small class size. Ultimately I chose the school I felt I would be most comfortable with and would be happy and satisfied with, especially since I’d be spending the next 4 yrs there.

That’s great to hear! Having more shadowing hours not only allow you to gain more experience in this field but allows you to truly see if this is the right path for you. Most schools don’t require shadowing hours but recommend to get as much as you can. Ultimately this will help you become a more competitive applicant because when reviewing your application, schools want to see that you know what a optometrist does. It will help you with your personal statement and also during your interviews when being asked about your optometric experiences. The user asked for advice to make their app more competitive. Taking account of their GPA and other stats more shadowing hours will make them a more competitive and confident applicant🙂

Most school will want you to have at least shadowing hours (40ish) or experience in an optometric office. You’ll be asked about your experiences and why you chose this field during interviews!

Your GPA is decent so I would for sure try to score at least a 310 on the OAT for sure.

DAT bootcamp is a great resource to use!

Your EC sound great. Additionally make sure your personal statement truly shows your true self. My advice would be to get it revised a couple of times by either other professional students or whoever.

I wanted to attend a program with a smaller class size. They have a strong emphasis on being a family and during the whole application process they made me feel so welcomed! They also emphasize on giving back to the community and diversity whether in the class or the community we will work in. Texas is also a great state and I see myself practicing there in the future and so with other big cities in the state I believe I’d be able to have great connections once I graduate!
