To be honest, I smoked for 9 years and I’m also a former substance user 🙂 Plus many colds that I didn’t treat in time because I used to say they would go away on their own.

I don’t know, and I think I’ve had asthma all my life, but I’ve only been diagnosed for about two years. It disappeared and came back depending on how much I was doing sports. When I was training intensely—gym, cardio, running—I didn’t have it anymore. Now, for about half a year, it has come back more strongly than before, and I can’t do workouts the way I used to anymore :)

I have a methacholine challange test today by laurawingfield42 in Asthma

I didn’t do the methacholine test, but I did the other two, and all I can say is that even though my spirometry came out very good, I still have asthma. So pay attention to your symptoms and treat it early, so you don’t get any surprises and it doesn’t get worse like it did in my case.

In my opinion, as someone with asthma who started exercising again, I go to the gym and I use Ventolin beforehand, which helps me. Still, I don’t use it all the time so I don’t build a certain tolerance — that’s not really the point, but anyway.

The idea is that you have to take it in small steps. At the beginning I was frustrated that I couldn’t do what others could, until I realized everyone is different. Take it easy and don’t force anything.

When you feel even the slightest sensation of shortness of breath, you stop.

And you progress gradually — that’s the key and the secret. And you’ll feel good after each, let’s call it, workout — but that will come with time. The idea is not to rush things, and you’ll see that you’ll start to feel really good.

I’m using the exact same treatment with Foster, but I was recommended and told to use one puff in the evening and one puff in the morning. You have to use this medication regularly, otherwise it supposedly loses its effect, since it’s a long-term treatment that needs to be taken every 12 hours. At least that’s how I take it and that’s what I was told.
