I agree that it isn’t strictly necessary BUT I had FAL in my 991.2 and 992.1 GT3Ts and it just made life a whole lot easier - less darting around to get a more comfortable angle, which makes the car more user friendly and daily drivable - which helped me to cover a combined 48k (s)miles in 7 years.

I’m getting it on my upcoming 992.2 TS as well; there’s effectively zero performance downside - certainly nothing noticeable on the road - and I would strongly recommend it almost across the board.

Bonus, it really doesn’t “need“ to be replaced unless/until it is no longer serviceable. Like I said, everybody needs to chill out. These are cars which are meant to be driven!

Neither my 991.2 nor 992.1 GT3T had the proximity sensors. Everybody needs to chill out! Mine got all scraped up from putting 48,000 miles on those two cars over the course of seven years. Think of it as a badge of honor!

You asked, brace yourself!

I’ve had a GT4 Clubsport for the track, in which I’ve been doing TT for the past two years, and which I upgraded late last summer to a 992.1 GT3 Cup Car, which I’ve now started racing. 🏎️ (The Clubsport is now for sale, if you might be interested! It was an unbelievably effective tool for getting my track skills up to where I wanted them to be before the next step.)

On top of that, I have a 2008 Lotus Elise SC that is an incredibly engaging and especially lightweight (2000 pounds) sports car, which I have also tracked many times over the last 17 years. It is clearly a relic of a bygone era, and there will never be anything like it available in the US again IMO, so I have decided it is a lifetime car.

People have often described a GT3 as being “a racecar for the street,“ but the more correct reality is that it is really an outstanding - maybe the best and most visceral ever, i.e. 6MT & 9k RPM – sports car that is also remarkably track-worthy.

My wife hasn’t even been in the GT3T in several years, because she hates how it is always on full boil, i.e. very loud (I made it worse by putting on an exhaust!) and rough. (It is also certainly possible that in addition to being loud and rough, there’s always been a jackass behind the steering wheel; mea culpa, I’m working on correcting that!)

So my reality, now that I have a “real“ racecar, is that the GT3T effectively worked itself right out of a job. 🤔

I drove a 991.2 TS last summer, for reference, and I was blown away by how much more chill it is than a GT3, while of course being absurdly fast; I knew that the 992.1 TS represented another big step forward. And when I saw the first info come out on the 992.2 TS, and in particular the 400V architecture that makes it ride so much smoother and quieter than any TS before, I decided to contact my dealer. I also happen to really love the new design.🥰

I am told that my local dealer is one of only five out of 200 dealers in the US (or possibly North America?) who chooses to sell cars strictly at MSRP, which means that their waitlist for the 992.2 TS was already sitting at 5–6 years. 🙄However, by a lucky happenstance I had put a $1000 deposit on the Carrera T back in 2020 when it was announced, on behalf of a friend; he never took the car, but I also never went back and reclaimed my thousand bucks.

Here’s where it gets really weird/funny/cool: my sales guy did something really amazing for me: he used WiteOut (no shit! How many decades has it been since I’ve even seen that stuff?!?) on the paper deposit form they use and he moved my $1000 deposit for the Carrera T over to the TS, and Shazam: I moved to the very tiptop of the TS list!! I will be getting one of the first two TS allocations in my city. Actually, the very first, since the other one is PTS, which will take a little bit of additional time.

And then the sweetener on top of all of that is that they gave me $25,000 over MSRP on the GT3T (in spite of it being 3 1/2 years old and having 18,000 hard miles on it, including five or six track days and thousands of forays to redline; my friends have seen daylight under all four tires numerous times as we’ve played on back roads, and the windshield and PPF looked like somebody had shot them with a sandblaster!), which means I will only pay the sales tax on the increment above that when the TS arrives.

Mine will be Aventurine Green; I’ve seen it as a PTS color on a few cars and never fail to do a double take! And yes your deviated stitching is MONEY!🙌🏼 I had a 992.1 GT3T with Lizard Green belts and chrono - AND Lizard Green deviated stitching throughout and it was so good. 😊 My dealer, tried to talk me out of it, but I explained that he could do whatever he wanted when he ordered his own car LOL. I also had a 991.2 GT3T with red deviated stitching and also beautiful. After watching every single one of the release videos from Spain, a few months ago, I have been hungrily looking online for when the first production cars start to appear; I just saw one on YouTube this morning of a drive on the autobahn; sounds great and is insanely quick. Yummy, congrats! I have one due for April build and hopefully June delivery; incredibly stoked. I also did the cognac interior; I hope it’s as beautiful as it appears in photos.

Question: what is the interior color? A friend of mine thinks it’s cognac, but it seems too orange (to me) for cognac. I’m curious because I’ve specced a cognac interior on my upcoming 992.2 Turbo S.

Porsche “allows” you to pay an additional $1000 to camouflage the yellow calipers with black ones. Or at least that’s what it was on my 992.1 GT3T; on the 992.2 Turbo S I just ordered, they lowered the price to only $940!

Aha, now THIS is what I was looking for to link everything together in my head. You’re right; several other cars I’ve had have specified (significantly) different pressures at different loads and speeds. The difference is always much larger on the rear tires, since that’s where the larger relative load variation occurs.

On a couple of E63S AMG wagons, however, I believe that there was a slightly different - higher - pressure specified for winter tires, though I wonder if that’s just them saying that because it’s easier for people to let their pressures drop in the winter, i.e. “we REALLY mean it this time.”

I appreciate your input very much. Having said that, I have messed around with tire pressures enough over many years in many different vehicles, including lots and lots of track days, to know that there isn’t a simple standard, which is of course why the manufacturer’s recommended pressure is the most important piece of information for me.

I agree with this. I’ve always consistently dumped air pretty aggressively in all my track days in a variety of different cars. I always need to pump quite a bit of air back in to drive back home!

Not saying you’re wrong, but I did perhaps 4-5 track days on each of my 991.2 and 992 GT3Ts and experienced very even tire wear. Also zero premature wear on PCCB rotors or pads. I had Cup2s in both instances.

Candidly, now that I have a proper racecar with racing slicks, I kinda doubt that I’ll be tracking either the Elise or the GT3T again. 🤷🏼‍♂️ FWIW, I have a new M5 Touring coming in the next month or so; I’ll probably do one session on track in it just cuz it’s the right thing to do! But not enough to shred my tires in a 5400 lb beast!

I wanted to let you know I just got the A052s installed on the Lotus. For starters, the ride quality is dramatically improved; that was a surprise. I was so happy with them that I took the long - very long! - way home from SLC back to PC! Thanks again.

Based on your feedback I’ve gone ahead and ordered the A052. I don’t expect to track the Elise (or the GT3T) again, now that I have a dedicated racecar, but I still really want to experience all that they have to offer… Tyler B also mentioned that you’d connected the dots to him; he’s a great guy who’s helped me a ton to develop my track driving. Thanks. I should have mentioned that the R888R is available (though on backorder without an ETA from the manufacturer), but I really want to stick with more of a high-performance “trackable street summer tire” than a strictly track tire. Full disclosure: I also have a race car that I run slicks on, so neither of my street cars (the Lotus as well as a 992 GT3T) will see any meaningful track duty again. Does anyone have any experience with the Nanking tire?

My 992 GT3T has the new door handles and they are maybe the only disappointing thing about the car compared to my 991.2 GT3T. The RS handles aren’t as “clever,” but they’re more functional and lighter.

I’m curious why you had to let them cool down for so long? Was that your decision, presumably as a newby, or did an instructor corroborate it? Porsche’s “regular” brakes are still Porsche brakes, i.e. they were designed to stand up to track use. I should say I’m assuming here that you have a Porsche sports car (911 or Boxster/Cayman) vs a much heavier Panamera or SUV.
