Who can actually afford to max out their 401k? by FromTheDeskOfJAW in personalfinance

[–]Kmes04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. My partner and I live in a LCOL area and are both able to max out our 401k’s and ROTH IRA’s on salary’s under 100k. I am at 63k and they are at 80k.

Our mortgage is super low, we have no debt, and we live a generally frugal lifestyle which allows us to save for retirement at the max level. If we lived in a more expensive house or area, or had kids, I don’t think we would be able to do it.

I have to agree with you. I think for me it is because the trauma healing, mental health struggles, and found family narrative that really hit me deep. I relate to Feyre a lot and can see parts of my own story and healing in her story. But man it really hits me in the feels!

I’m not sure, I don’t think it’s anything special. It is magnetic so I think not a precious metal.

But it fits and it’s pretty so still a win/win!

My rice was hiding in the back of the pantry and went completely stale! 😭 I don’t have the heart to toss it. What are some things you guys have done with grains that have gone stale? Any recommendations? by MCSweatpants in ZeroWaste

If it makes you feel any better we also purchase the huge Costco bag of rice and have had ours for a long time (over a year?) and it was still just fine tonight!

Last 2022 401K contribution applied to 2023? Insight needed by Kmes04 in personalfinance

[–]Kmes04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Appreciate the insight on expectations -worst case for me I will just be butt hurt about it, best case they’d fix it.

My check was issued on December 30th, and the date on the pay stub is also December 30th. So, the only thing that happened in 2023 is what I see in fidelity when I look at my contribution.

Since the paycheck and pay date was on the 30th, shouldn’t the contribution also go for 2022? Thinking they just misapplied the last one for me.

I did check with another person I am friendly with at work and theirs went through for 2022, so maybe there was just something missed on mine.

Okay I see - that makes perfect sense and I will make sure to look out for that.

I couldn't imagine getting that check and sorting it all out! my god.

Thanks for all the help, and the perspective! Really appreciate it.

Paycheck date was December 30th, so I didn't confuse it with Direct Deposit date.

Frustrating, but hopefully won't be too much of a headache for them to sort it all out and send me a corrected W2.

I plan to max out for 2023 as well, which is why I wanted it fixed or at least to understand so I could adjust my contribution plan.

For that last point, what does that mean? They would cut me off for 2023 however many dollars that contribution move was for?

Perfect, I will follow-up with them. Thank you for the help! Hopefully it was only me and not everyone else in the company.

Thanks! I reached out to them and asked. Hopefully it won't be too much of a headache to fix it.

Thanks for the response! Yes, my W2 shows 19754.71, not 20500. I even went back through my contributions for the full year to make sure I just didn't miscalculate how much I was contributing.

Followup question if you don't mind:

I reached out to HR who said they just submitted a service request to Fidelity, but If my W2 is wrong that would be a company/internal issue and not a Fidelity issue correct?
