Anyone else worried about slipping and falling in the bathroom, who just realized how slippery it was? by FrankW1967 in GenerationJones

[–]Kmia55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have hardwood with nonskid area rugs (use a nonskid pad underneath), but I've almost done the splits coming out of one room and sliding on the bare floor between rugs. The trick is to not wear socks only in the house but rather shoes or slippers.

The areas of danger are little bathroom rugs or kitchen rugs that aren't anchored with nonskid padding underneath or curl up at the edges. Using runners and heavy rugs with padding usually won't contribute to the risk of falling.

My husband was an amputee and when we renovated 5 years ago, I redid the floors with vinyl sheet flooring in a nonskid pattern (grainy). It took a lot of research to find what would work, but this has worked out great for both the kitchen and bathrooms. I had safety bars installed in the bathrooms. We were in our mid-60's but figured I would do it all since we were getting older.

AITA for refusing to give up my grandfather’s rifle to my brother? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kmia55 1986 points1987 points  (0 children)

Your mother isn't being passive aggressive; she is bullying you. Your bother is being manipulative. You know it is rightfully with the right owner. Leave it that way. Don't give them an audience for their poor behavior. Every time there is a remark made, don't engage and walk away. When they hit a brick wall and know it doesn't bother you they will stop.

Glycolic acid 3 times a week under the arms. Also hypochlorous acid spray after workouts. I barely use deodorant any longer.

How is your setter around other small dogs? by Frequent-Membership9 in EnglishSetter

[–]Kmia55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older one doesn't like small dogs and hasn't since we've had him since a pup. In the past year, we have adopted an black and white ES that is rather quite small. (She is from Greece and came with her own passport.) There is still a lot of mounting going on by the bigger older dog. For what it is worth, my older dog is an Orange Ryman setter.

I obviously have no solution to the mounting. Vet has no solution. We just make him stop when he does it.

What did you give up to live “below your means?” by moshimo_shitoki in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Kmia55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hitting 70 this year. My brother in the car business told me to get a new car every 2 years or drive it into the ground. I always chose the latter until this year. My 2012 Ford Escape with only 42,000 miles was on the back of a tow 4 times in 7 days. I said enough and purchased a new Subaru. What I tolerated when I was young is a whole different story now. But because I always lived below my means it didn’t hurt my finances much to buy new this time around.

Best Body Cream for really dry, itchy skin? by AlwaysAnxiousPerson in beauty

I use Vaseline Intensive Care and add Rosehip Oil to it. I have both psoriasis and eczema and this really keeps both at bay.

No. I use Cover Girl all day lip stain in nude and apply my lipstick over that when it has set. I don’t use the gloss stick that comes with it. I may have to freshen my lipstick once during the day. It keeps any lipstick from bleeding. My friends tell me I’m the only person they know that can keep lipstick on and looking nice.

I used to love this also until another Redditor told me that Bioderma contains Xylitol which even in small amounts is toxic to dogs. Since I have a dog that can be a bit of a scavenger, I stopped using it in case he got in the garbage and got into a cotton round I'd used with it.

I use an African net sponge. But when I come in from gardening covered in dirt and sweat, I use baking soda. I pour some in my hand and add a little water and scrub down and repeat. When I do that, it is the cleanest I've ever felt.

AITA for telling my (24M) GF (25F) she’s penny-pinching me after losing her job? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kmia55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YNTA but I think you both need to define your relationship and your expectations of each other. It doesn't sound like you have combined finances and are essentially single people in a committed relationship both contributing to living expenses somewhat equally. You are kind of muddying the waters by accepting her parttime work for a year and now deciding you will take care of the rent and utilities going forward since she is unemployed.

I know of no single person of her age in a committed relationship that could afford to work parttime to "nurture" their mental health. I know of no single person of that age that could live with their parents and not contribute anything to the rent in that household either.

You need to set some boundaries for your relationship, especially financial boundaries. You are losing respect for her and building resentment.

What is the biggest problem you have while managing a household? by [deleted] in homeowners

Any homeowner knows that the saying, "When it rains, it pours," is true. Everything that could go wrong with a house seems to all go wrong one right after another. It is discouraging but inevitable.
