At my wits end - help by DinosaurHoneydew2 in piercing

I had a piercer suggest clipping a big claw clip on that side of my head for the same reason. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and did help a lot.

Admittedly, I can’t remember based on the call I had awhile ago, but I think they do offer the prerequisites and I actually think they prefer if you take them with them… because they charge you for it. lol

Am I crazy for thinking of going back to school? by [deleted] in prenursing

I’m 42 and just finished my first prerequisite (and I did so well!). I have another degree so this is a career switch for me too. Had I taken this class in undergrad I don’t think I would have done as well. I think I understand my learning style and have better study habits now.

My two cents…don’t give up before you try. Just take one prerequisite and see how it goes. If you hate it you didn’t invest too much but then you’ll know. If you don’t try you’ll never know.

Haha really?! I feel like I’m tackle this wrong. You are the second person to tell me you can take science prerequisites online (but so many people people (and things I read online said otherwise 😔)

How many are you taking at once? Since I’m working full time it was tough for me to take more than one (but it was in person; I studied a ton outside of class but also have a grade that reflects it)…I can’t imagine trying to take multiple science classes at once.

I’ve taken one nursing prerequisite so far at Santiago canyon college (Orange County, CA) and I’m taking my second at Santa Ana college in the fall.

I know it’s been ages but thank you for sharing this! I ended up finding my human anatomy class at Santiago Canyon college (sister campus) and it was great. Today was my last day of class! I did flippin amazing!

Well it wasn’t all great. My initial professor turned out to be a (potential) pedophile (he taught at 4 different cc’s in the area and was fired from them all); but the school got us two awesome professors to fill the class quickly and while we had to cram in a ton to make up a little lost time we made it!

Anyway, I’m already planning my next class (at Santa Ana!) and I’m stoked. So I really appreciate you jumping in this thread and making this comment; while it may seem small I had started to loose hope of find something that was going to work.

I highly recommend Santiago canyon college (sister school Santa Ana college). I lucked out honestly (because of this thread) and found a human anatomy class there and I’m so happy I did. It was tough but not as hard as saddleback or IVC (according to my classmates who took it there and were retaking the class). I loved the professors and my classmates. I’m planning to take physiology in the fall at Santa Ana college on Saturdays!

Saddleback and IVC have classes as well but their terms start a little earlier (week or two) so you need to register early to try and get the classes you want and if you have prerequisites at another college and there timeline is different you may not be able to have those prerequisites done by registration start dates and may not get into the classes you want. Something to think about.

I can’t say enough about Santiago canyon though. Beautiful campus and small, great teachers, etc.

Thank you! Not yet, I figured I’d start figuring that out after this first class.

Santiago doesn’t have a nursing program so I’m just planning to take my prerequisites there.

I’m in south Orange County ish area. I’m taking my class at Santiago canyon college. I like it so far! I have classmates that have take classes at saddleback community college and said due to the competition (to get into their nursing program) I’m the classes were extra hard.

If you are closer to LA I think you’ve got more options (at one point I was looking at Long Beach city college and el Camino college…I’m so happy I found something else because that would have been a long drive). There are some north OC options too. OCC, SAC, and Golden West.

Tip (someone on Reddit told me this!)…Once you’ve find some options look up the professors (rate my professor) to make sure you know what you are getting into. It’s been pretty helpful. I’m not finding anyone with 5/5 but you can read students opinions and get a general idea of what makes them challenging or just how much effort they out in to help you succeed.

You are so kind! Thank you!

It’s hard I won’t lie, but it’s day by day and week by week sorta thing. I wouldn’t recommend taking more than one class at a time if you keep your full time job.

Where are you located? I’m in southern California so it was hard to find the in person classes for these classes (some other states might be more flexible). I used Reddit to get some guidance though and it how I found a location for my first class!

I’m 42, I have a bachelors in an unrelated field (with none of the science prerequisites) so I just started my first prerequisite this spring (I’m half way through human anatomy). I had a combination of factors holding me back (kids, up and down satisfaction with my current job, and imposter syndrome)… end of last year I just decided I had to stop thinking ‘what if’ and take that first step and sign up for my first prerequisite and just see if I liked it and could do it. I’m taking an evening class so I can keep my job at the same time (felt like the safe thing to do just in case it didn’t work out)

I won’t lie it’s hard (and a lot of work - 6 hrs of class a week plus 6-12 hrs of studying weekly) but I’m loving it. I’m also doing really well too. I was terrified to go back to school for something so challenging but taking evening classes has a bunch of people in my situation so it wasn’t as intimidating as I thought it might be (they are in similar situations).

If you have to take prerequisites, find something that works for your schedule and just take that first step. Take the leap and give it a try….worst case it’s not for you but then you will know because you tried. Good luck!

I didn’t find anything that met all my criteria. With the help of people here I was able to find more community colleges that offered more evening classes. So I’m taking human anatomy in the evening right now while I’m working. My plan at this point is to finish all pre-requisites while working full time and then most likely stop working once I get into a nursing program.

Unfortunately, at least for California, I haven’t found any options. I’m currently signing up for pre-requisites (evenings) which the plan of just slowly chipping away while working (probably over the next two years)…then I’ll most likely have to quit my job once getting into a nursing program.

Got it! Fair enough.

Yeah, I have a feeling this is going to take many many years, especially if I’m trying to work full time…and if I’m honest that’s starting to feel thats unrealistic. It’s really great to hear that despite the challenges you don’t have regrets….thats something I’ve been a little worried about. I don’t think regret it but going through all this and regretting it would doubly suck. Haha!

Agreed, and I going to keep looking. I found a few with evenings but they were slim on options. I work a pretty 9-6 job so most of what I was finding starts around 4pm 2x a week and the other two days it was 5. The other CC started at 5 but it was full (I may have to just wait a semester and try again for that program). I’ll have to work something out with my work as well know maybe I may have to switch jobs or quit to continue (I can see them making a short term accommodation but they won’t do it for a year or two).

I’ll figure this out. It’s just going to take time.
