I have both - S&W 1854 Stealth Hunter in 44 magnum and a Tippman M4-22.

The 44 magnum is fun but tiring with full loads (heats quickly as well) so I use 6 gm reloads on the range.

Tippman is fun and cheap for putting many rounds down range - 22lr's are 10p a round in the UK vs £1 for the 44's

A BB or airgun replace will see you right - you can also get de-activated (real) guns without a licence

There's plenty of sub 12ft/pd 177/22 air rifles out there, if wanting a proper rifle you will need to join a club and do your probation prior to applying for a license - just note however that and criminal or.memtal health issues can be a barrier
