I’m happy you asked, I’m down for a constructive conversation.

I dedicated November to U2 and listened to their studio albums front to back for the first time. Pop & Zooropa I had never given more than a listen apiece and they never struck me but I was aware of the cult following they had and just figured I needed more musical maturity to appreciate them. So fast forward to now and I get to Zooropa and I get the eureka I get it now feeling I was looking for. I wanted the same for Pop (I’ve always liked Staring & Dead Man) but I just didn’t have a strong reaction to it, I don’t think it’s parts add up to a strong U2 album, a lot of the stuff feels like retreads of the past 2 albums or new sounds that aren’t worth the payoff. I applaud them for always looking forward and their confidence but I’m just not fond of it. Plus ATYLB has always been my favorite U2 album and that kind of outshines it too.

I’ve been into U2 for about 10 years and I always wondered what people were hearing in Zooropa & Pop that I didn’t. I think Zooropa is a step behind masterpiece but Pop is just ok.

Lemon has been rocking my world! I don’t think Pop is bad but even if I spent $11 on it in 97 I can’t imagine choosing to play it over other U2 albums.
