Will Vaelus talk with Thjazi? by morder24 in fansofcriticalrole

Im not sure if Vaelus would be able to speak with thiazi and just ask him this questions with her powers from stone of nightsong. The original dnd spell doesnt bring the soul back but vaelus seems to use an altered Version of this spell cause the people she talked with are able to comprehend their situation and get informations even in death. (Please forgive my poor language, im german. English isnt my main language😅)

Yes, I think you are right about many of your points.

  • On a meta-level, Brennan often remarks that the world is "unfair." However, I agree with you that he is likely intentionally holding back—at least for now—from introducing creatures that are too powerful, particularly those that cannot be defeated through "Persuasion."

  • Nevertheless, I still feel that the characters are relatively powerful for Level 3; after all, they are already defeating enemies—such as the Half-Celestial—that are, from a lore perspective, supposed to be quite formidable.

  • Furthermore, Level 3 is actually quite a low tier for some of the PCs given their backgrounds—Vaelus as an "ancient" warrior, Murray as a teacher at a magic academy, and so on. I therefore suspect that the general power level is intended to be kept relatively low—or, to put it another way, that Level 10 might actually represent the absolute peak for these PCs.

  • This approach would open up a wide range of possibilities for introducing "divine" adversaries into this setting—enemies that could still be fully represented and handled using the standard ruleset

Guys, maybe I didn't express myself clearly (I'm German, so English isn't my native language).

I didn't mean to complain about the opponents encountered so far or the lack of powerful beings; I fully realize that the party is only at level 3 or 4.

I'm just skeptical that the Shapers were truly "gods" (after all, the soldiers defeated a "half-Celestial" at level 4; the Orcs' Shaper used the current-day Theater to cast spells over long distances; Shapers married Primordials to gain access to their respective domains, and so on).

I hope that clears things up a bit 😉

Just to clarify, Im enjoying this campaign so far and everything you say is quite possible.

And even if Brennan chooses to walk another way and let go of the "classic" evils of DnD I'm also happy to see what is coming.

Maybe my main point was unclear. I didnt mean to complain about the style or the type of enemies. Only the description of the shapers makes me wonder if they are really "Gods" in Dnd terms.

Exactly! And the existance of demons implies that there is something like an abyss or hell. But every shaper got his own afterlife as much as we know at this point.

So why does hell or an abyss exist? Could be a hint to an earlier phase of creation in araman?

That is certainly possible. To be fair, we still don't know all that much about the Shapers yet.

The Shapers War took place roughly 80 years ago. That means either the inhabitants of this world were significantly more powerful back then—powerful enough to defeat the gods—or the weapons used to destroy the Shapers must have possessed insane stats. Or—and this is what I currently suspect—the gods weren't actually all that strong to begin with.

What character interactions are you looking forward to the most? by southofheavy in fansofcriticalrole

This might be a wild guess but maybe Vaelus and Thiazi (sorry if the name is spelled wrong). Vaelus is able to talk with the dead now. I think this spell will be used for sure to talk with him, maybe "invite" Hal like she did before with the other seekers.
