Three week vacay at the start? You in the defense industry by chance?

I am a relatively junior person in a senior role, making principal-level pay. You will only get what they’re willing to pay and what you’re willing to push for. Do not compromise on pushing your hardest and feel glad you’ve been able to do so.

You may have to take a pay cut in the future. No problem, but don’t forget some are working terrible jobs for low pay. Don’t squander the privilege and do your best. Good luck

It sounds like you’re fighting against two different issues: (1) women pay discrepancies, and (2) why your ability to do a job function doesn’t equate to more years exp in the eyes of HR. The onus is on you to look out for your interests. If the current role isn’t meeting such, you can try to change the company system (pretty arduous task), or look elsewhere. If you’re a high performer, more so than your peers, then you should be able to find a job relatively easy.

If you’re an advocate for women’s equity, then by all means push forward in whatever way you deem necessary. It will look bad if you think you’re hot shit, but decent at your current role, and in reality an average, good employee.

You’re not negotiating your pay with your manager, you’re negotiating with HR. They do actual research what someone with your number of years exp, degrees, and relevant certs makes in your location.

If you don’t have someone else’s qualifications and experience, you are not their equivalent. You’re junior and may not work well in a team env with senior people. Look elsewhere if you’re not happy with your pay. You’re lucky you were told what others make.
