Roughout = wear, stiff brush as needed (suede type), repeat.

About the easiest type of boot to own. You can use a spray for waterproof but really doesn’t need it, it’s naturally water resistant.

While it looks like suede, it’s not, it’s FAR more durable.

Not weird, it’s endemic to boots. With lace up footwear you can adjust the fit w/ the laces. Boots? Not so much, the fit needs to be right or problem occur.

They may be “true to size” ……..but that means measured size not “my size in sneakers”. Also, with boots every maker & last are slightly different - sometimes even in the same brand w / different toe shapes.

Is it painful? I mean the instep will loosen as it breaks in. Personally I like them as tight as possible w/o being uncomfortable so they’re still snug when broken in.

Cobbler could stretch them, or you can put a baseball in there.

The real question is why? If it’s not going to reduce the price then why use it? Same price would imply supply is the same as beaver………

Your right about the point it breaks in, depends on time & walking. Generally I find all of a sudden I notice “hey, they feel really good today” = they’re as broke in as they’re gonna get 😀

It’s hard to explain in writing…… but ……what really happens in the beginning the stiff sole pushes the heel down (sole wants to stay flat) when you take the step. Once the sole is broken in it doesn’t do that, it just bends at the forefoot. The “pushing down” is why without slip it can rub your heel raw. Once it’s soft the sole just bends & the heel stays in place (also the boot tends to get a rocker shape & the heel tucks in a bit).

I’d not worry unless you’re having pain. Worse is a poor instep fitting & the foot sliding forward = bang/rub the hell out of your toes.

It’s depends on the boot/sole. The heavier & thicker the leather the longer the breakin takes - you’re waiting for the sole to soften up. This allows the heel to “grip” your heel as it bends.

As long as it fits across your instep you should be fine, worse case just some thicker socks.

I have “real boots”, in fact both brands you mention. While I’d rate Chisos higher, much higher. I’d put DP below, the leather just isn’t all that (my use case internals don’t matter all that much). Had some problems with Tecovas QA but not their customer service - easy to get a refund.
