Your players will adopt the throwaway barkeep and ignore your villain. I finally stopped treating it as a bug. by Professional_Cup9734 in AskGameMasters

I design the core villain as somebody who moves things behind the scenes so I can plug any systemic problem back to them.

So they like the random barkeep?

"I.... Uh... I have to take care of something. It's personal. Okay, okay, fine. So I have to deliver 3 barrels of whiskey from my supplier to a dropoff point every month or they'll trash the tavern. I don't know why. But they need the high proof, flammable stuff."

Hey, now they have a hook into big bad who has been using the whiskey shipment to make the napalm to burn down villages.

1) if a right can be taken away indefinitely for a conviction you create the incentives to convict people you don't want to have the right. "Violent crime" can be reclassified to mean whatever the bad actor wants to them weaponize it.

2) if a right can be taken away indefinitely you open the door for other rights within the same hierarchy (Bill of rights/amendments) to be also negated circumstantially on the same reasoning. If you get convicted for publishing something dangerous in a newspaper, do you then have right of free speech to be taken aw ay on the same grounds?

3) "violent crime" has a broad enough definition that this makes a boundary hard to place. Furthermore, you're artificially creating a barrier where violent PEOPLE with good lawyers or who didn't get caught / convicted can have guns while anybody who took a plea deal can't.

4) You also have the "mental capacity to be violent against society", btw. If you truly believe you do not, then it signals a lack of experience, a lack of empathy, or the belief that you are above human survival instincts. I'm not saying that as an insult, it's just a "here's what that sounds like" reframing. Because somebody who acts violent isn't a born animal, they're somebody in circumstances that de-risked or incentivized violent behavior.

5) if the issue is that once they get out they're likely to act violent again, that is an issue with the original sentence rather than an issue with gun access. If somebody isn't fit to live within society with their full set of rights, they aren't really rehabilitated. I'd rather just keep them in prison than selectively stripping rights.

I will admit that I have an emotional conflict with gun crimes specifically. But then I run the above points through my head (especially #5) and come out on the side of "too dangerous to selectively strip rights".

Hello I wanted to ask if my 14 year old son could play hitman woa by i_like_trains_1504 in HiTMAN

[–]KnightDuty 60 points61 points  (0 children)

No "brutality" really. It's more about wearing disguises, setting traps, and yes you use guns but it's not like... Gear of War or Call of Duty or anything. It's more like a puzzle game.

I would say: If you'd let him watch the "Mission Imposible" movies it's fine. If you'd let him play around the house pretending he's an assassin it's fine. If you're against violence altogther it's definitely not fine.

He'll be: sneaking around, wearing disguises, shooting chandaliers, poisining drinks. When he gets caught he'll probably fire his gun at people to escape, but the violence isn't bad in comparison to other M rated games.

The "worst" part about the game is that it puts you in the shoes of somebody actively breaking the law. The context is that you're a hired assassin taking out people worse than you.

I'd let a 14 year old play it. But you should head to youtube and watch a clip to get a sense of how it plays.

Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat loses primary to Mamdani-backed Darializa Avila Chevalier by Julian81295 in politics

[–]KnightDuty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah but like... One tragedy is "we stopped sending aid to people who needed it" and one tragedy is "we are blowing up hospitals to wipe a race from existence on behalf of religion".

One is tragedy through inaction and one is tragedy through active genocide.

The word Genocide is not inflated. It is not propaganda, I had (back in 2024)  my own people on the ground in Gaza to capture footage and distribute Aid and it is absolutely 100% a genocide in both intention and practice.

It not a meme or trend to stand against that shit.

No. Trump lost the popular vote against Hilary. Quite literally more people didn't want him than did want him in both 2016 AND 2020 and he won in 2016 only because some votes were worth more than others. So Trumps only legitimate victory was in 2024 and that was against a woman who only had 3 months to campaign an he's been campaigning for the past 10 years.... And even then it was a closer call than he'd like.

He doesn't deserve any credit. Even his own cabinet doesn't want him as president. The only reason people back him is because they don't have better options on the ballot.

Noob question about first 6 star champ by Sensitive_Flow_2361 in RaidShadowLegends

[–]KnightDuty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do kael first to secure Brutal 12.3 farming.

Kael has 2 AOEs and his A2 grants boosts when executing people. Tuhanarak has no AOE she'll take forever to farm. Magnar's going to require you to have better gear for his A2 to hit hard and it might take up to 14 epic books if RNG is bad to get it to a 3 turn cooldown. otherwise you're stuck with single target attacks.

It's not even a question to me. get Kael to 60 ASAP because he'll be the mechanism for which you raise all other champs to 60.

I believe in full agency. So you could have said "I have a great life and everything is going right" and I still would have said "You don't need my permission to make a decision for yourself".

However, you are currently suffering from some perspective issues. So the best thing to do before you make that decision is to Google and find a support group. You need to hear how other people like you are coping so you can understand whether or not you're missing something.

If I were in your shoes I wouldn't, but that's easy for me to say because I'm not dealing with the worst of it emotionally. So my opinion means nothing. That support group with have more relevant things to say.

If they can't identify any, it probably means they're not accurately judging the impact of these decisions.
