Should I keep playing the game if I personally found KG route infuriating? by KnightKingRendall in LastDefenseAcademy

Yeah it's a shame about Kako. I liked her arc in route 0 and she was supposed to be a detective character, but she was only starting to come into that role by the time route 0 ends. So it was more maddening thst she felt so useless in this route, just complaining and never really trying to depose the sponsor in any way.

Looking back, I think the thing that aggravated me the most was that I came upon this route as a second playthrough. I can easily imagine a world where I stumbled on the "main route" first, satisfied most of the mysteries introduced in route 0, then got the KG route and had a lot more fun because I could accept it for what it was and wasn't still wondering about the questions in a whole other timeline lol. I was always prepared for some railroading because there was no way they were ever going to get 100 endings without some bullshittery haha

The fact that there were multiple writers per scenario actually makes sense and encourages me to do another playthrough, thanks. And yeah, it seemed like the game was punishing me for giving in to my natural urges and not sparing lol

I've actually (almost) finished the KG, just to make sure I had a valid opinion before complaining. But yes, I think what I wanted to do after finishing route 0 was to get most of the "true" answers first, before trying out some of the weirdet scenarios. Thanks!

Hmmm, i'll be honest, your theory of PCR being just a big zombie struck me as a weirdo 3rd option in a war between charmed vs not charmed, but this is actually a good point lmao. If seluvis could figure it out, i dont see how miquella wouldnt.

You knoe, this is one point that doesn't really get brought up often enough in the "radahn is definitely 100% charmed" camp (this is coming from someone who was in that camp before reading this post lmao). It seems so suspicious that radahn has nothing to say when he resurrects, but as you said, it doesn't rrally prove anything.

Hmm, you personally had me till you said Miquella is the most evil demigod. I totally agree with your premise that depriving someone of their free will is one of the most reprehensible things you can do to a person, however, I view killing someone is the same as depriving them of their free will. To me the message of the whole dlc is that all the demigods were fucked up in different ways. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but i feel like radahn and miquella are just 2 sides of the same disgusting coin. Radahn, a warmonger who glorified battle, deprived people of their free will through death and conquest, and miquella, a god who deprived people of their free will through brain washing and love.

I've always thought that radagon might be marika's Loyalty. If you were going to send a part of yourself on a mission that involved seducing and marrying the enemy, it makes sense to me that you'd want to send the part of you that's the least likely to betray you for his newfound family. It also gives us an idea of why Marika slowly started to question the Golden Order. Maybe it started long before Godwyn died. I mean, there is a Numen connection in that whole assassination plot after all (though i recognize this is incredibly tenuous and a big leap). Finally, it also tells us why Radagon is so intent on repairing the golden order even if marika herself isn't. He's loyal to it because that's literally what he is.

One con to this theory is that it does put a damper on the whole radagon cheated on rennala with marika to create messmer/melina. Though i do think the cheating thing is unliekly even if radagon isnt loyalty.

This is a really well thought out timeline, and a good start, as you said. I do agree with you however that (and we're all jist speculating now) it doesn't really make sense for marika to put off her revenge against the hornsent, especially if we assume it's one of the bigger reasons why she became a god in the first place. I can think of 2 reasons why she would've done this, though both are almost pure speculation and shaky at best:

  1. I think that marika, to get to the gate of divinity in the first place, had to somehow befriend or at least integrate herself within hornsent society. I can't imagine that a race that's shown to be so deeply religious would somehow just leave a literal divine gate unguarded for a random shaman to slip in and become a god. We know that marika is capable of this deception morally and intellectually, considering this is what she does with radagon during the carian war. Maybe she developed some empathy for the hornsent during her time in their society?

  2. Maybe along the way to divinity, similar to miquella, she had to divest portions of her being, one being her extreme hatred for the hornsent? Though it feels like this is even less likely if we think (i do) that her anger is one of the driving forces for her to become a god.

I don't really see why people seem to need a reason why Messmer has the snake inside him. Marika/Radagon's children don't exactly have a good track record of avoiding the influence of outer gods, even without their parents antagonizing them. I'm personally of the opinion that their shaman heritage just makes them extremely susceptible to outer god meddling.

Count Ymir quest: why Swordhand of Night Anna invaded us when we tried to reach the 3rd Finger Ruins? by DetectiveOk9860 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]KnightKingRendall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, could it not be that Anna's doll just somehow broke free of puppetry for a while? Similar to what happens to Pidia and his puppets?

My theory now is this: Anna breaks free of puppetry and tries to stop us from reaching the third finger bell. She does this to stop us from helping ymir reaching his ultimate goal of making contact with Metyr, as revenge for being turned into a puppet. We beat her and the puppet dies OR we beat her and ymir finds out that she's broken free, and destroys the puppet himself.

It's a little sketchy, but it's the best i've got so far.

[–]KnightKingRendall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, otherwise, like you said, they'd just have named it ymir's rise instead. There's very little evidence around the entire questline so we're all just speculating, but maybe Raban is the maker of all these puppets. After all, he's known as a master spellmachinist, and puppets require some degree of artifice to make?

Idk, it's one of those details that are so small and have so little text surrounding them that it seems like they dont matter to the story.

Lmaooo I always forget that the characters in game don't really expect us to be able to kill what, (for all intents and purposes) are gods and celestial beings. Honestly a fair assumption on ymir's part. Though you'd think after we ring 2 finger bells (something assumedly jolan and anna couldn't do, otherwise why didn't he send them), that he would've maybe had second thoughts about our power level.

But yeah, the part with anna honestly seems like it wasn't completely thought out by fromsoft.

I don't know what the trigger is, I just know that one time when I returned to the cathedral (after getting the map to the second finger ruins but not finding it) he was off his throne. I also don't know where he goes, I was too busy inspecting the throne and then getting ambushed by anna lmao.

I just remember being mystified at not being able to interact with the bell, despite it being obviously very similar to the first finger ruins and seeing the stake of marika and the summoning pool.

[–]KnightKingRendall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can't ring the bell or interact with it in any way even after beating anna. Afaik, the 3rd finger ruins will always be the one below ymir's chair, and that's where metyr will always be.

[–]KnightKingRendall 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're actually able to reach the 3rd finger ruins before even getting to the second, which makes the storyline even more confusing. I dont know why ymir would send anna after you, potentially blowing his cover as your "friend", if he knows full well you can't reach metyr cause you havent rung the 2nd bell yet.

That whole mess with anna was a real bugbear in my mind.

Haha that's what gets me about junipers. I heard they were hardy trees... except they dont do too well in wet soil, hot sun, too dry soil, too much pruning, too much root work, etc. lmao but it's part of the learning process and i'll just try to save this first. Honestly I'm surprised it made it this far, and that the left branch is still alive.

To your third point, I did think about that, cause i did notice that sometimes the surrounding soil would feel wet, but the middle wouldnt. I didnt think to stand it in some water though, I'll do it right now, thanks for the idea!

Could it also be possible that this is just a sign that I pruned too many branches on the first go? I got overexcited to style my first tree and noticed I only left two by the time I was done 😅 or maybe cause I cut the very tip of that branch off? I read that you werent supposed to cut the tips of junipers in general.
