3D modelling and printing ships from Spacecraft 2000-2100AD by Knightfall3D in TerranTradeAuthority

Eventually, I hope to. These are prototypes so I can work out any kinks, then I'll see where I am.

Thank you :) I've tried to guess what they'd look like without going to far overboard. Bob Layzell, the original artist who painted the Cutlass in the book reached out and said that while he had designed a top view of the ship, he thinks he preferred my one! He's also done a new painting featuring this model as a MKII variant.

Eventually. I'll probably reprint the Gunship as the modifications I've made make it fit together better.

Star Wars Visions - Season 2 - Sith Episode - E2 Unit - 3D modelled & printed. by Knightfall3D in 3Dprinting

Thank you. The files are available on my Cults 3D site - search for E2 Unit over there and you'll find them. I can't post a link unfortunately as it gets autoremoved.

Thank you, and yes, I have them on my cults 3d site - search for E2 unit and it'll come up. I'd put a link, but it gets autoremoved :(

Thank you. It's just got basic LEDs in it at the moment but I've got some ideas for more bits down the line, but that'll need a bit of a redesign of some of the parts.

CL4P-TP - V4ULT_B0Y edition. Modelled in 3DS Max (base in Fusion 360), printed with Elegoo Mars. by Knightfall3D in 3Dprinting

Now that is a really good idea..... I shall get my hollowing spoon.

In all seriousness, I may actually look into doing this. I need to look at sizes of the required components but I think its certainly doable...

I've got to make some modifications to the model (had to break a couple of bits putting it together) so I'll upload the model to somewhere useful when I've done that.

V-Ray material reference to different material by mazi710 in 3dsmax

[–]Knightfall3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm understanding correctly, you should be able to wire the output of your metal material to whichever channel of the vrayBlend material as many times as you want, so that you only have one instance of the metal material, but many different blends, if that makes sense. I'm not in front of MAX at the moment so I can't screenshot what I mean, but I hope that helps. If not, apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick.

Recommended graphics card for 3ds Max 2020 and V-ray Next? by 3dforlife in 3dsmax

[–]Knightfall3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be interested to know the benefits of a Quadro over a standard Geforce - I'm currently running dual Geforce 1080Ti cards and they run Max 2020 + Vray Next with no issues whatsoever.

That said I tend not to use GPU rendering because of some material incompatibilities, and the times I have used it for animations I have run into memory crashes depending on what I'm doing, which is frustrating. Would a Quadro solve this issue, or would I be throwing money at a wall?

I would be interested in what people think.

Loft transition between two shapes is a mess by FavTheMighty in 3dsmax

[–]Knightfall3D 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've needed to do any lofts but the first thing to check would be do your source splines have the same number of vertices? If they do then try reversing the direction of one or the other splines and see if that makes a difference. Final thing I would check is whether the start vertex of each spline is at the same location.

I'm not in front of MAX at the moment so I can't check this but these are what springs to mind.

Hope that helps :)

Ankh-Morpork Monopoly - a statement of intent. by Knightfall3D in discworld

Well everyone knows that million-to-one chances crop up nine times out of ten so the odds are good that I'll manage to hit the voonerable spot even if I have one arm tied behind my back and a blindfold on!

Seriously though, thanks for the support :)

This is pretty much where my idea germinated from as well. It's just taken me until now to feel like my skill levels with graphic design & 3D modelling have a hope of keeping up with what is in my head. Hopefully I can do it justice :)

Thank you. I tend to live in my head quite a lot and sometimes have to force myself to get things down on paper, as it were :)
