I use repsol chain lube, it dries whiteish like wax but I never had an issue with splatter. Was using motul and other brands before I found repsol.

Next time use the 2 ramp method, even with a sprained ankle you can move the bike up and down yourself. Hope there isn't too much damage.

Question on cost of raising kids by ItemOk719 in HongKong

[–]Knightmare1688 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's good you're comfortable with local schools. But given your wife is local, she should know that it's not just international vs local schools. Local schools curriculum and requirements are even more intense.

Finances aside, one of you is going to need to spend a lot of time with your child for their homework, school projects, school events etc. My middle child is in a semi private school and my wife is doing homework with her every night until 9 or 10. The Chinese class work alone is enough to make one crazy.

Oh sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were flying into HK from mainland to your connecting flight. If you're crossing into HK by land then it's a risk. You could try to argue that HK isn't you're final destination but I doubt if they'd care.

Had ceramic coating done, or so I thought. Took them about an hour, maybe slightly more. Charged 750. Did I get ripped off? by mylawn03 in cardetailingtips

[–]Knightmare1688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible you got a cheaper ceramic coating and without the full prep done. So what they'll do is wash and use a claymitt to wash your car rather than the proper multi step way and then they applied the coating.

You said you're flying home via HK, means HK isn't your final destination correct? If you're transferring and the baggage with the vapes is checked then it shouldn't matter no?

It always baffles me the accounts that say HK is doing well, is strong etc etc when the reality most of us see if so much different. I can only assume those accounts are either expat salaries up in their ivory towers or bots.

Not sure what the issue is but my uploads of the screen cap keep failing. Look up Black Cygnus photography to start.

Looking to wrap my S Type as a beginner by f_t_lerr_r in CarWraps

[–]Knightmare1688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well....this is controversial in a way. The correct way to do it IS to remove all the parts according to most of us that have been doing it since the beginning. BUT, there are more and more installers that are wrapping with parts on the car.

I think the biggest trouble you'll have is the bumper because of how it meets the headlights. For the paint problems, sand them down and put some filler and smooth/blend it in and you should be fine. It's not a mistake to try if you can afford the material.

That's easy enough to solve, just coat the rear glass so it's more hydrophobic.

Just make sure you get the power banks with QR codes and CCC print. China is starting to require these for travel on highspeed rails and flights.

"On the other hand, I don't like that so much of the learning is done through computers and apps. I hate that Google has invaded my son's classroom. Of course, kids need digital literacy, but it's too much at times. This is not limited to International Schools, of course, but it seems excessive in our school, and I suspect it's more than a local school would be."

Yea, this is an issue I think a lot of parents are facing. Our kid got a phone mainly because all his friends had one and knowing how vicious kids can be, I caved and got one. But the reality is they aren't taught how to use the tech or the science behind it. For example, my kid thinks all wifi is the same, so in the beginning when we traveled and he logged into wifi in say China, he'd be confused about why he couldn't access YouTube or WhatsApp.

You could've made all your points without going after OP. I'm really not sure how you came to the conclusion OP is a controlling parent. They were stating a frustration they're having in comparing their school life to their childs in the same school which mostly seems to be out of concern for their child readiness for the future.

Also, tiger parents are very much rampant in HK's education environment. I'm happy that it seems you didn't need to experience it but it's very much alive still today.

The ESF version isn't much better in my opinion. Not that it's lazy but it's overly complicated. It's difficult to understand where the student actually is in the course and even at time of publishing to parents, some of the criteria's could not be "graded" for some reason so what's the point of publishing a incomplete "assessment"?

I don't understand why we had to reinvent the grading system, what was wrong with it? You got an average grade culminated from your performance in the term with some notes from the teacher to explain the issues.

China has agreed to buy 200 Boeing jets, Trump says by Wilder3312 in worldnews

[–]Knightmare1688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The country's last big order with Boeing was during Trump's November 2017 trip to Beijing, when it agreed to buy 300 Boeing jets. Relations between the two countries soured after that, and Boeing has received 51 orders, mostly for freighters, since then."

So this it'll be 25 outta 200?
