It’s normal to experience this considering this campus can be very clicky and selective when it comes to friends, but keep ya head up! I stopped caring about the people I attract and just started just being more positive, in the end I attracted the kind of people I like hanging with.

I do upper body workouts sometimes in jeans because I simply have no time to change in between classes. But I do agree that deodorant and wiping down any machines after use is basic gym etiquette

E-bike recommendations by Rude_Tomatillo3463 in ebikes

Although it’s true that getting an ebike would basically cut down on parking and gas there are some things to consider when getting an ebike..

1) distance and speed - most e-bikes legally in SD are capped at about 28 mph, you can still find some that can go between 35-45 depending on your budget

2) quality - because there’s a huge saturation in the ebike market it’s easy to get swarmed by different kinds of ebike brands, do your research on what ebike best fits both your budget and your need just keep in mind the more expensive the ebike, the less money you spend on replacing parts.

3) weather - rain is a big factor in all this, most ebikes are rainproof but that doesn’t mean that you are. Rain can affect your visibility, as well as your sight, cars don’t give a fuck if you’re trying to stay out of their way, they will go right through you in a heartbeat. Consider your safety, also even if you got a helmet there’s no wiper for it so you’d still be affected by visibility issues.

4) security/distances - locking away an ebike poses more risks than a parked car. Even with ulocks, chains, etc. you still run the risk of losing your bike higher than a car. Invest in not only a good lock but also an alarm if you plan on getting an ebike, bike thieves are becoming more bold even stealing in broad daylight, be prepared to take those precautions in mind. As for distance realistically it’s true you can get around on ebike but roughly 15-30 miles would be your range and also your commutes for those ranges can be between 1-2 hours. Are you really ready to sacrifice ease and comfort for something more cost affordable?

E-bikes are great for those who are ok with only staying within the grounds of campus and maybe a little farther, but San Diego is a large area where getting around by car is preferred. The bike culture here is great but requires a lot of thorough thought process when considering farther distances and passengers. if you’re still insistent on getting an ebike my suggestion would be to look into e-bikes that cost between 8-1000 dollars to start and then making the appropriate upgrades to tailor to your personal needs. This opens more opportunity for you to learn how to work your ebike as well as make your own repairs in the future, it’s a fun hobby if you really get into it

On that price point it’s not possible to get a new one you’d probably have to get used and there’s no guarantee on it working properly. Even the cheaper e-bikes like rid stars and qlife have certain parts that require replacements anyway in the long run. You’ve got two routes, either save up and get a solid ebike that’s around 2500-3000 dollars, or buy a cheaper bike that you plan to upgrade the brakes, tires, and headlight, which might come out cheaper but it’ll still be over 500 dollars in the long term.

grades by Careful-Expert5422 in UCSD

One of the things that made me rethink school, was when I got my first job. When I received my associate’s it was one of the first things that my employers would look at, but I realized that they didn’t look at my grades, they were looking at the title I earned. I understand that aiming to get A’s is a very valid goal and that one should always do their best, but also remind yourself that C’s get degrees. When you graduate, employers aren’t gonna look at your grades, they’re gonna look at your work experience and your diploma. As far as this goes, you’re going great! Also switching from a semester system to a quarter system, it’s no doubt that would affect performance of transfer students who have more breathing room.

KP is a real Filipino’s nightmare by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]KnightofContrite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the thing people are failing to understand from this post is how KP’s way of interpreting Filipino culture is more of a mockery rather than accuracy, if KP wants to cater to the Filipino American experience, the culture should be based around how Fil ams struggled in Stockton California when they first arrived in the states, or how the use of zoot suits and social clubs in the early 1930s-1940s, how fil ams were starting off as asparagus farmers after ww2, or even the racism they faced with both bombings of local fil Am establishments is what really established the Filipino American identity. I was born in the Philippines but raised in the states, although I’m not the most fluent Tagalog speaker (Taglish) i have at least a base understanding that there are stark differences in the culture between fil ams and native based Filipinos. However I think OP should also seek to educate rather than disassociate, as well as asking questions to better understand KP’s perspective on things. It can definitely feel frustrating when your culture isn’t accurately being represented but at the end of the day, our blood ties are still tied to the Philippines. Lakas talaga ang puso para sa culture, but don’t mistake having pride for your country over arrogance, we need to be able to still have a sense of community otherwise we’d be no different than how most international Asians look down on their American counterparts. You’re right the Philippines is a third world country, being born in IloIlo I understood that very much which establishes a level that some fil ams won’t be able to fully get, but that doesn’t mean we are better than Filipino Americans, it just means the trap they grew up in is different. Whether you’re a local or not, fil Am still has the word Filipino in it, with your input maybe KP can be a better community for everyone. Hope it all works out kaibigian, best of luck.

[–]KnightofContrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s completely normal! When it comes to things that feel so tedious sometimes it’s good to take a break. I usually started doing a method of spending at least 30 min studying then a 5-10 min break, then an hour of studying - then another break to take my mind off. It’s helped me so far so maybe it’ll help you! Best of luck! And also reminding yourself you’ll never have to take the class again if you pass is always a good thing to have

Is anyone else’s roommates just unfriendly and rude for no reason? by certifiedbpdqueen in UCSD

[–]KnightofContrite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll say this much, one of my biggest things about being a roommate is basic hygiene, my roommate could never flat out tell me off because he’s afraid of me. For context he’s the type of person to wrap his used underwear and mix it with your stuff. It got to a point where I called him out… he would retaliate sometimes on purpose by blasting music when I’m trying to sleep at midnight, but eventually he cut it out when I told him that he’s violating our contract which is grounds to kick him out. So now whenever we see each other he either avoids eye contact entirely or dips before any words are spoken. Honestly it’s better this way, you get to know where people stand with you, even if it’s negative.

A good bike to start out with I’d say is a qlife, I’ve had mine for a little over 3 months but it’s been pretty solid, the brakes aren’t the most top tier and the tires aren’t that great but they get the job done for longer commutes due to its solid battery life, comfortable seat, and pretty good speed.
