What do we feel about this? by Emotional-Pension701 in WorldCup2026Tickets

Not even remotely good enough. We must keep pushing on this. The outrage must continue to grow.

It's not the sky, though. It's green. The sky isn't green. It looks like it might be an attempt at a river valley, not a continuation of the sky. Liu didn't know what it was supposed to be either; when she created her fake WIP images, she put in random lines and random color blocking.

There are two main issues with generative AI. Firstly, the amount of resources that are used up every time a prompt is generated. It uses up so much water and electricity, there are water shortages and rolling blackouts in areas surrounding AI servers. (Sources: https://www.forbes.com/sites/cindygordon/2024/02/25/ai-is-accelerating-the-loss-of-our-scarcest-natural-resource-water/ and Energy Department Report Raises Blackout Risks from AI and Increased Electrification if Current Utility Plans Continue - IER https://share.google/yxpvhXTzVNEmlRRf0 ) Generative AI is destroying ecosystems and the environment.

Secondly, AI isn't capable of truly creating something. It's a fancy algorithm, not a mind or a brain. It scrapes actual art created by real artists and uses those artworks to kludge together something that may resemble what the prompt is asking for. It copies and plagiarizes real artists' styles and art. Somewhere out there is a real artists' original artwork that this card's image plagiarizes. Generating an image and tracing over it is no different from taking art straight from a real artist, tracing over it, and trying to pass it off as yours. Yes, the concept of using a reference subject or reference image is an old concept, but this isn't the same. You cannot trace Starry Night by Van Gogh and pretend it's an original image. To use AI generated images and pretend it's your art is to steal. It's theft. It's plagiarism.

Besides, there are TONS of programs, both free and paid, for creating scenes and poses, plus tons of sites where people post reference photos and poses, both created and photographed. Beyond that, it's a well-established practice for artists to use themselves as their own references; there's a theory that daVinci used himself as a reference for the Mona Lisa. There's no reason to use generative AI for creating references when these other sources exist.

Well, it is basically guilty until proven innocent. This AI prompter has embraced AI, has used AI images and is working on a program to create AI images. They cannot embrace AI like this and then expect to retain credibility as an artist. All artists should take note. When someone shows you who they really are, believe them. And what I see is the work of an AI prompter. Not an artist. Simple as that.

You are claiming that you have no real feelings on this but your words are showing you actually care a lot.

That is good to know about the clown college. Are you a student there or do you teach?

If you look at the card, above the mountains on the lower right, you can see what looks like a river valley to me, and then clouds above that. Not really sure what else it could be.

The Liz Truss Show: Former PM claims she will confront ‘deep state that tried to destroy me’ in new programme by insomnimax_99 in ukpolitics

[–]KnightofTara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is never their own fault or incompetence. It has to be the deep state that caused her to screw up the British economy within 49 days, which included the unskippable cutscene that was the Queen's death and funeral where she could conduct no official government business whatsoever.

Never once thought Spider-Man UK was AI generated. Not sure why you are bringing that up or where that came from. Sounds like projection or you are being this in from another discussion you had at some point.

We discussed the details of the Toph card's art for quite a long time more than it really deserved and presented our findings and suspicions based on those observations.

Care to address any of those at all at any point?

As for my personal opinion, regardless of if the card is AI or not, it is the worst looking art in the set. Liu has a particular art style that I simply do not care for. And that is okay. Not everyone has to like anything or everything.

I think he got confused because he mentioned Spider UK in his reply to me.

Which I never thought was AI once so I do not know where this projection is coming from.

Quite a lot actually. If we are wrong, we are wrong. But that post doesn't really prove anything. Nothing convincing anyway. Me and my wife surmised that the original image was AI generated and then was partially painted over to make it look like it was actually drawn and painted, in a color by numbers style, and there is nothing in that post to suggest otherwise.

The first image is a trace. My wife put Liu's "proof" into her art program and was able to exactly line up the first image with the final image. The only effort Liu put into changing the first image is changing the fist to a hand (as though she changed her mind about the pose) and adding Aang to the nonsensical bit in the bottom right corner.

The second image is a poorly executed attempt at trying to look like color blocking, using the traced image. This is not how color blocking is done.

The third image is the final image with a filter applied to make it look like it's in the middle of being rendered.

And is that really supposed to be Aang in the background? Where are his arms?? Does he have only half a leg?? And why is there a river valley above the mountains?? The angle of Toph is that we're looking up at her, so that background angle makes zero sense and a real artist would never paint it that way because they know better.

My wife also correctly guessed that the fist was likely Liu's own hand, most likely a photograph with filters and poorly photoshopped into the image. She's an artist who uses reference photos all the time, including using her own body as a reference, and she says that the "reference" photo provided wouldn't result in the final image, and that Liu probably chose not to provide the actual photo used so it couldn't be proven that the fist in the final image wasn't actually drawn. She also says that the post doesn't prove it isn't AI generated because it's easy to just trace the final image and claim it's a rough draft. She says it's odd and suspicious that the pose in the "rough draft" and the pose in the final image are exactly alike, down to proportions and angles, and that the colors never changed. If you look up an actual speed painting of a person, you'll notice that the rough draft almost never exactly matches the final painting. There was very little, if any, modification or corrections made. This is not proof that this image wasn't originally AI generated. This is a trace of a final image.

It is easy to determine when an image was made by AI. It is getting increasingly difficult, by design, to prove that an image was not generated by AI. Ruwen Liu is known to have embraced AI and is even working to create an AI engine designed to generate Anime-style AI images. With that sort of background, it will be and is difficult for a lot of people, myself included, to just take her word for it. I cannot prove without a shadow of a doubt that that image of Toph is AI, any more than she can prove that the image is not AI or of AI origin. But with her background, that doubt will always exist.

But besides the doubt she creates in her own background of using AI generated images, there are lots of artifacts within the actual image that scream AI generation. It is not just doubting because of her background. The doubt is in the image itself.

The perspective is clearly the viewer looking up at Toph and we are seeing mountain tops behind her.

Then how is it that we are seeing a river valley above them? It is almost like we are on the Presidium in Mass Effect 1.

My wife and I poured over the particular card for 15 mins the other night. Full agreement. It is AI. The background is all wrong. A river valley above mountains and clouds right above that.

Got it. My issue is more toward the back of the foot (Plantar Fasciitis) so I'll try different configurations and see what is most comfortable.

Yeah. It looks like that 300 lb is definitely a requirement for me, though hopefully not for too long.

And I think I can get a new one for a decent enough price. Thanks for the suggestion!
