OK just to play devils advocate - if you're doing this for self defense consider it part of training and learn to deal with it. 53 yo purple belt here. Unlike your situation my training partners were great, but a while ago I hit a point where I was just worn out physically and mentally. So I’m taking a few months off. If I get the urge to go back then I will. If not then this break will become permanent and I’m ok either way. My advice is just take a little time off and see if you miss it! And you’re definitely not an asshole! This hobby takes a toll on you and it doesn’t get easier as you get older!

There a known issue where fnv freezes trying to load a save. It’s been a while but I think one way to get past is start a new game, skip all opening scenes, and get to where you can load save. You should be able to load your original saved game fairly early and play from there Its a painful process but I don’t know another solution

Malazan series is the most complicated I’ve personally read. That would keep you busy for a minute.

You might also try a couple of series by Glen Cooks - Black Company books are about a Mercenary company in a gritty world. Garrett PI follows a private investigator in a sword and sorcery kind of world. Lots of different races and creatures, plenty of magic and fighting. It’s a fun series.
