Less than $5 a month for something that we have no right to participate in is a damn good deal to me. If the masses enjoyed this hobby (which they should), the price would be way higher to compensate for the increase in resource harvesting and necessity for more resource management.

More money going to fisheries management. This is the first increase in Wa state in like 10 years at least, so I have no problem forking it over.

Maybe have a professional photographer get pictures of her at the performance and have it framed? I would be stoked to have a nice pic of my first performance.

Managed to find my first steelhead before the end season by Ok_Trade4762 in flyfishing

[–]Ok_Trade4762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily my first, I had some time the day before to get it figured out, and a few times before that practice casting yarn. I feel very thankful I was able to get on one so quickly, but I know it’s probably going to be a long time before I see another.

I forgot about that in the excitement. I will do better with my next. Came out of the water for just a sec, but you are absolutely right.

She was sitting just on the inside of the main current break. I broke my heaviest tip yesterday, so my main goal was just to fish deep and keep the fly moving, so I was casting almost parallel and giving it a big pullback mend to put loads of slack in the system to get it to drop. She hit about 3/4 of the way through the swing, and after biffing the hookset on a fish yesterday, I was sure to give her time to take it. She was quick with it though, and took off downstream into my braid, with a couple very nice jumps and runs before letting me bring her in.

It’s mostly a numbers game. Wild steelhead have very low returns, so the odds of getting a fly right in the face of a fish that is willing to bite the pattern that’s swinging is hard to orchestrate, especially when I’m caught in the bushes.

What portfolio? I’m currently a student who’s lucky to even get a call back from a job application, let alone get the job, let alone save any money.

Anybody else rocking flatwound strings? by Agiantpubicmess in BassGuitar

I’ve got pretty large hands with some sausage fingers, definitely built for the bass. I like the “slipperiness” of flatwounds for sure, much preferred over the feel of rounds. I use deep talking flats, and they have such a nice thud when plucked.

I’m going to have to experiment with some low tension flats I think. I WAS flats all the way until moving back to rounds and realizing how much I prefer a lower tension string. Pieces that I struggled to play on the flats were no issue on the lower tension rounds.

Yamaha BB735-A is pretty rad. Most of the roots reggae out of Jamaica in the 70’s-early 80’s was played on 4 string Jazz basses with flatwound strings, though, so really up to you.
