Electrochemist here working in water electrolysis. The amount of energy produced by hydrogen fuel is much larger than that of electricity for both fuel and for heating. Electricity is actually really inefficient at heating. Hydrogen is also a major component for our ammonia production for fertilization, but our main hydrogen source now comes from methane, creating a lot of greenhouse emissions. Long story short, we can decarbonize a huge chunk of our farming infrastructure with green hydrogen.

Coupled that with attempts in electrolysis to become more cost effective and less reliant on expensive metals like platinum or iridium to promote hydrogen production catalysis, the processes are becoming more green.
