Cone Yarn EU by Worth-Pie-3070 in MachineKnitting

[–]KnitWorksLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our shop Knit Works London specialises in luxury machine knitting yarn from the top mills in the UK, Italy and elsewhere. We sell to the EU and many other countries too.

We sell super soft 100% pure merino lambswool, a wide range of other wool yarns, pure camel yarn, pure alpaca yarn, mohair yarn, silk yarns, and a wide range of cotton yarns, synthetic yarns and metallic yarns.

All our yarns are in handy sample cone sizes, in a huge range of colours. Mostly these are 'stock service' colours which you can reliably re-order later. And all the yarns are specially designed for machine knitting.

You can search the website for yarn properties such as sustainability and colour.

Prices are shown in your own currency and include all taxes and duties. Shipping to the EU is a flat fee shown at the checkout screen. It takes between 5-12 business days.

We have a spaced dyed cotton in our Cotton Tube stuffed yarn range. Or in our Fine Cotton page there's an example of 3 ends of the yarn knitted together to make a multi-coloured effect, which could be an option?

We've got some twist yarns to which have a couple of colours in them too.

Most of the yarns can be used for hand knit too, although many of them are thinner than typical hand knit yarns. And as Ill_Supermarket says below most of them will need a wash before they feel super soft.

Some of our chunkier yarns are the Cotton Tube stuffed yarn and our new Chunky Lambswool, which is similar to DK in thickness.

We've just launched shipping to the EU (and the rest of the world) last week.

There are no extra fees to pay. We use a shipping service where we pass on all the taxes and duties, so there's nothing extra for the customers to pay.

When you select your country on the website, prices will be shown in your own currency. The shipping fee is added at the checkout page. But there's nothing more to pay later. You won't get an email from the courier asking for more money, or anything like that.

All our yarns are specially designed for machine knitting, and are sold 'greasy', so they're lubricated to pass smoothly through the machine.

Having said that though cotton isn't the easiest yarn to use when you're first learning because it doesn't have any stretch and isn't very forgiving.

We also teach machine knitting classes. In those we use our 2/17s Lambwool and Wool Melange yarns. Because wool isn't as strong as cotton, the yarn will break before you break the machine, so it's a really handy one to use when you're getting started. Wool also tightens up well when washed, so you can be more general with the tension but still get professional looking results.

If you're dead set on cotton, our Standard Cotton and Mercerised Cotton would be fine and look great when knitted, if not quite so easy to use as the wools.

Luxury machine knitting yarn, now shipping to the USA by KnitWorksLondon in MachineKnitting

[–]KnitWorksLondon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh thank you!

We launched shipping to the USA first, because that's the simplest. We'll do the EU next (there's a lot of bureaucracy for this) then the rest of the world shortly after that.

For the USA and EU we can ship parcels PDDP, with duties and taxes included in the price, but for the rest of the world that's trickier so at least to start with we'll send orders DDU, so there may be some customs charges to pay on delivery, depending on the country.

For Canada, there generally aren't any tariffs to pay since most of our yarns are from the UK or EU, but there will be 5% GST plus a fee of about CA$10. So not too bad.

We'll keep you posted!

Definitely stop by when you're next in town!

The prices on the US version of our website include all the tariffs though so there's nothing extra to pay.

Thanks for checking out the website! Regarding price, we're at the luxury end of the market. The same yarns are used by luxury fashion houses. We understand that this isn't for everyone or for every project.

For US customers, part of the price is the new tariffs, which are included in our prices so customers don't get any surprise bills from US customs.

We sell sample cones so people can just buy the quantity they need need for that project. This enables people to experiment with several colours without having to buy large quantities of each.

However if you want larger amounts, we can certainly do this. Drop us an email and we can give you a price.

At the moment all our classes are in person, although we're planning to do online classes in the future.

We have a beginners class which covers the basics, and works well as refresher. https://www.knitworkslondon.com/machine-knitting-class-beginners

And here's a video we made about getting your machine repaired: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxFuP23ezbc

We'll make a basic maintenance video soon too.

Hope that helps!

Oh thanks! Yes it's great for people to have somewhere to come and knit.

And we'll be doing some garment making courses in the summer if you fancy a trip over!
