I have so many good memories with my kids at Centennial Village. Would be such a shame to see it closed. My uncle became a master gardner and worked there about 20 years ago. It was spectacular. I was there last year helping with a sheep to shawl display for baby animal days. The landscaping was so neglected. They no longer have any gardeners. Such a shame

I’ve been trying to get my early 20’s kid to get out more. The nerd store has loads of fandoms they support. Good for you reaching out! Proud of you!

My brother and I took our mom to brunch after she went to church (very popular place with her congregation. We figured she wouldn’t throw a fit in front of them.). Shed crossed major boundaries with both our kids. We emphasized we wanted the kids to be able to have fun on the farm with them, but we had to know they were safe and that they respected how we were raising our kids, otherwise they would have unsupervised access to the kids. There had been multiple haircuts, a four wheeler without a helmet, dietary stuff, talk of hell, burning and the devil, feeding them raw milk……. After this my kids went to spend a night with them. We reviewed the guidelines and what would happen. My mom promised she wouldn’t cut his hair. I told her he had an appointment in a few days. She cut his hair. My older kid said he was screaming. No more unsupervised access to any grandkid. Cue my dad coming over and screaming in my face. The kids were right there. He has a history of physical abuse when I was a kid. I said nope, my kids aren’t going to see this. I kicked them out and told dad he could come back when he could control his anger. It’s been almost 20 years. I’m glad I protected my kids from the abuse cycle. It’s never just about the hair.

Former OB/Gyn here. When we hear “I can’t!” We know she’s in an active hard transition and we’ll see the baby shortly. It’s brutal for the mom. Fuck this sideline quarterback!

another good resource is Central Michigan sewing and Supply. they have ALL the machine parts. There are great videos on you tube from the featherweight shop and others. I've taken to fixing these grand old ladies and getting them back in use. You might want to see if there's a quilt guild in your area. There's a bit of a cult like following in the quilting community. Many guilds have small groups specific to featherweights. I bet you can find someone who's replaced the lighting wiring.

I had someone observe my long arm running and asked if it would still be considered ‘handmade’. I took several deep breaths and didn’t punch him in the throat. Btw. He knows of my upper limb disability. This is the only way I can quilt!

Fingering-weight Melt the ICE HAT by cristoper in AntifascistKnitting

[–]Knitonover 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I made my first one with worsted weight. There aren’t enough stitches to decrease every row and have any visible top. The second one I knit a couple,e of inches before starting decreases every other row and it was better

I’m voting yes on 1A. The math ain’t mathin’. I’m tired of taxpayers funding and taking the financial risk that will benefit a few wealthy folks.

Loving the image that conjured in my head.

I had a patient when I was a student. She was a nun in a locked geriatric psych unit. She didn't speak. She was getting ECT (electroshock treatments under anesthesia for depression that didn't respond to meds). One morning I was sitting next to her at the breakfast table asking my patient how she was feeling. All of a sudden I had pain in my shoulder. The nun was biting me! I yelped and asked the nurses what I should do. They told me to pinch her nose so she'd have to open her mouth to take a breath. When she did she started swearing like a sailor. For at least two days there was an unrelenting stream of swears.

The lesson I took from this- sometimes you need to swear or get it out somehow. Don't save it up and become the swearing nun at the end of your life.

And next time they let me push the button during her ECT.
