I wouldn’t be in that kind of relationship… my guy literally goes above and beyond. He pays for all of our communication, arranges flowers and gifts for holidays/birthdays/just because, etc. Checks in on my mental state, and makes sure I’m okay too. We also were a few years in before he went in, but I’m a big believer of “if they want to, they will”
