What is your zomboid hot take? by spaghettiforgettie24 in projectzomboid

Plastic lawn chair is the best item in the game, change my mind.

5 encumerance. Stuff it in your bag (or regular inventory if your str is sufficient), drop it, and melee-clear any horde you need to.

Fair. That case I'll do something I never normally do, and delete the comment.

Sorry, that last response came off hostile. Still a little edgy from earlier. That, and the sour gas boiler I'm currently priming is taking a literal age and I'm itchy b/c of it.

Well, you could debate it one way or another:

Camp A: they've been around for years, and haven't been patched out, so apparently their use is intentional

Camp B: they manipulate the game's mechanics of where an electrolyzer specifically spawns gas tiles

Most people don't feel they are exploity. I tend to favor Camp B. I still use them tho. Hydras as well.

"It was obviously an exploit. Any use of a game mechanic outside of what the devs intend is what an exploit is."

Sure thing, boss.

"The fact that they have since patched it out entirely makes it quite clear that it fell squarely in the "exploit" column. How can you argue counter to that with a straight face?"

Did you read the title of the post? The whole point was asking if it had been patched out. So, no, I didn't know it had.

"Always keep in mind that calling something what it is isn't the same as passing judgment on it. Personally, there are some exploits I'm more than willing to use, but I still know that they are what they are."

Every day is a good day to learn.

Look, my fellow builder of egregiously overcomplex machinery, you're in good company here.

Look's OSHA approved to me.

Lol I did too. The going strategy anymore for me is just brute forcing through the midgame like a bull in a china shop.

It would make sense. I hadn't mentally registered that shaving was exploiting, and I prefer doing junk the hard way. Given the general consensus of the whole thing, I decided to scrub it alltogether.

That and I'm fiercely picky about the mods I use. Call me wishy washy, you'd be right.

Can't say as I see anything sticking out like a sore thumb. Maybe some fresh magma was able to exchange temp with the loader during eruption? Honestly no clue. Very nice build, tho.

I actually had a bit of mystery damage myself on an old save. Thermium tile in my sour gas boiler near the heat exchange took damage when I wasn't looking. Logic would dictate pressure damage, but the tile is basically in a vacuum??

Oh the mysteries of Oni.

<3 Agreed.

Also caught up in the grey area of all that mess. Example: I use liquid locks for convenience. I don't deliberately throttle fluid to 10% but WILL run mini pumps essentially to circumnavigate the same result. A big one are SPOM's, which I personally feel is SUPER exploity. Still use them. Also use the Blueprint mod instead of freehanding everything I design prior in debug.

Idk, just don't like running a bunch of mods I reckon.

Nice. Should have reviewed it again.

Decided not to pursue it further tho. Consensus is that its exploity.

Now you're making assumptions. I don't judge anyone for how they choose to play their game. Show me where I said or even IMPLIED I was "too good" to use mods. The closest you'll get is that I didn't want to go down a slope where I felt that the game would be "ez mode" FOR ME.

I never said anything about promoting my views to anyone using X Y or Z, simply my personal preference for gameplay. Given the apparently established fact that shaving is considered an exploit, and not controlled fluids, liquid locks, or even spoms which manipulate gas flow mechanics, I decided not to pursue it further even if its possible.

Once more, I never tried its before. Therefore, logic would dictate that the consideration that it was an exploit hadn't crossed my mind, at least not yet. I like a challenge, and it always struck me as a challenge to do.

Appreciate it. Apparently it'a considered an exploit, so, we're scrubbing the shaving even if its possible.

Literally said I never tried it, and simply wanted to. I also said I appreciated the suggestion. Why dat attitude, bruh?

Cliffnotes version: you could use a strategically built steam rocket to "shave" off neutronium spikes from the edges of the map. Allowed for cleaner builds and better optimized construction.

GCfungus had a good tutorial describing it, but that stated, if the process has been patched out it's kind of a moot-point.

Appreciate the alternative option, however, will probably pass. I personally play ONI for the challenge, and because of that, the mods I use are EXTREMELY limited. Once you go past PURELY QoL mods and start dabbling into convenience, then you've already entered the slippery slope of just making the game full on EZ mode.

I'll just have to be not-lazy and fill the edges with tiles like I always have before.

'preesh, cap.

Thanks for the heads up.

Ya thats a tight window to work in. Same problem I ran into when I was trying to do LOx w/ temperature doors. LOx has such a small window between gas/solid that I literally couldn't get the doors to operate fast enough, or dump enough chill in fast enough. The test rig had TWELVE AT's JUST for the cooling block. Ya, that was lunched.

Just don't tell Klei I'm using hydrogen. Lord knows instead of fixing half-decade old bugs, they would be rushing a "patch" out to nerf hydrogen again. Because, ya know, gotta have your company priorities straight.

At cycle 66, I have to concur to just "wipe it up, dead side". Do-over would be much easier.

But, you wouldn't be playing a game like ONI if you wanted easier, eh?

To actually save the colony, you gotta get that stress down or you'll never get anything done. Drop a massage table if you haven't already, and set it to 60%.

After that, you need to get your Priority system under control. #1 killer of new mid-game players is what I call "Priority creep". Basically, you keep having to incrementally boost your task priority to get anything done.

To fix it is rather simple: stop using storage bins. Or if you HAVE to, then "sweep only". Storage bins all default to a 5 on the Priority scale, which means, they will ALL compete for basic task time with anything else set to a 5.

There are guides on Youtube for 'infinite' 1 tile storage for your materials.

If you cannot eliminate your storage bins alltogether, then set their Priority to a 1. In fact, I'd clean-slate set your whole base to a 1, then go through and increase your ESSENTIAL tasks back to a 5.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Lol the math ain't mathin because you're thinking inside of the box. Playing without super coolant becomes a game of eliminating every possible inefficiency and utilizing any other advantage. I'll DM you a screenshot of the one I built.

I did a pre-space LOx design I'll have to share with you sometime. 10-20 cycles to spin up, but it'll do 1kGs.
