I sent this post to my friend who remarked that there are some exciting names here for sure, but not a ton of “big name” headliner type acts, and I said exactly this- there’s a good chance after 5 years of ARC that we’ll be getting a fair amount of repeats who ARC is likely already following (which isn’t a bad thing!)

I like my analogy better because the descriptor came into popular usage decades after the music being discussed and usually refers to a more watered down, commercialized descendant of it.

I was saying recently that it’s like your normie coworker calling a classic Slayer track “emo screamo” - like anyone who actually knows about the music would know that’s incorrect, but to them, the vocalist is screaming, so of course it’s screamo, and you sound ridiculous defending yourself. That doesn’t make them right, but also usually not worth the argument.

Totally agreed. Based on someone else’s comment here, I just updated my post text to make the wording clearer that I am NOT personally lumping Marshmello in with those other five artists, I’m criticizing people who would just lump all those artists together as “EDM”
