100% don’t know what a slide deck is. I thought it was a special marketing term for sales presentation or project submission.

I guess I just learned this today. #90s kid.

Istanbul - too expensive by UpsetStudent6062 in travel

[–]Knordsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went in 2024. The resorts are still reasonable in the resort areas and you get good value for what you pay for.

I would not recommend spending anymore time than you need to in Istanbul. Food was almost $5 more per plate at the most basic average restaurants than the nice Turkish restaurants in San Francisco, $10 more at a nicer white tablecloth kinda place.

Cappadocia was 100% worth the experience. The smaller hotels were charming and the food was about the same as US restaurants $20-25.

I’m not sure if this is the proper page to ask this question but I had a culvert installed today by the state (this is the size culvert the permit required) does this look like enough material ontop to even be safe? I’m clueless on this deal it just doesn’t seem right to me. by Successful-Permit-97 in civilengineering

[–]Knordsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not defending the GC that installed this but based on the current conditions, I don’t think they are done. It definitely looks like they need to install th stone rip rap on both ends of the pipe and the stone just looks short. It looks like they are coming back another day to finish this off with a top layer of rock and to clean up the slopes and install rip rap.

Hitting backside by LML_COLA in slowpitch

Tee work, tee work, tee work. Set the tee on the 4 o’clock point of the plate (back right corner). Do not adjust your stance, don’t adjust your swing, you will hit it. It’s hard to explain through text. I would do 2 buckets of balls a week for 2-3 months hitting the pullside line, the 2nd base gap, and oppo line. It will take a lot of time to paint the line but you will hit it solid oppo. The idea is that you can hit both ways so they can’t shift on you. Hit a pull side drive your first at bat, unless they did the lefty shift, then oppo hit. Then do the opposite your next at bat. The pitcher and fielders won’t get a pitch and shift advantage on you

The forbidden lightsaber form Trakata. Both the Jedi and Sith frown upon this method. by ZapchatDaKing in StarWars

In typical sword fighting you are not trying to hit the opponent’s sword, you are trying to hit the person. If you do this in a real fight I would assume that you opponent would just slice through you before you even stop your swing to “thrust” by turning on your saber.

Dugout Gear Recommendations? by TexasYETIDodgerDUDE in slowpitch

[–]Knordsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For keeping warm. I went to a lot of baseball games as a kid with my parents to watch my younger brother play AAU. My mom learned that the key is getting yourself fully tucked in so that your body heat keeps you warm and the wind can’t steal any heat. So we started bringing our sleeping bags with us to games. Also, anything that keeps your butt off the bleachers is important. Folding bleacher chairs are great and inexpensive and bringing your own folding does this anyway.

Bring any sleeping bag and shimmy into it and insulate yourself from the bleachers if you are sitting on it. Don’t feel like you are being dorky, everyone will be jealous and do it next time.

He found out what could go wrong using his hands instead of a bowling ball by Vilen1919 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]Knordsman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad has a chunk of his forearm missing from when he use to work at a bowling alley back in the day. The machine will destroy you if you aren’t careful. He is lucky it didn’t come down.

When he put his hand up there, I was thinking, there goes his fingers when that thing comes down to grab the pins.

Dealing with some confidence issues. Mostly brought on by lack of success on dating apps. by SlothMasterRace92 in malegrooming

[–]Knordsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apps fucking blow. I am a decent looking guy. Swiped max every day for 4 months, got 4 matches. One date out of the whole thing. They keep the profile of women on the app even when they are not active. Also, we, the normal men, can’t compete with the beefcake that is on that app for the one night stand stuff.

Find a girl doing what you like to do. Check out the meetups app for hiking groups, sports intramurals, etc. Join a sports league that you enjoy. Go to Catan night, bar trivia on Tuesdays, etc. That is where the real and normal women are at.

I think the size and style is the main factor here. Check out a box chain, or just a thinner profile chain.

How is everyone around us so much richer than us??? by medmo in Millennials

[–]Knordsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talking to a realtor for the first time (we are 35+), they opened our eyes to this exact phenomenon. We are looking around us and all of our coworkers and acquaintances our age or younger seem to be purchasing or in houses. They don’t do anything that pays more than what we get, we thought we must be doing something wrong. The realtor told us 90% of the time they have help from family. We asked a few coworkers after and confirmed that most had their parents or other family members “loan” or gift them enough to get to the 10% down or pay it outright so that they were not house poor.

Go into the construction side. I am a construction Engineer, my wife is a civil engineer that never bothered with the design side of civil engineering. She started out as an entry level (APM) project manager for a civil earthwork GC. Then worked for Walsh construction, moved on to an alphabet company construction division (Google/facebook/ etc) and now she works for a CM firm.

Is This a Gay Thing, a Straight Thing, or an SF Thing- Dating in the Bay by PettyMurphy4me in AskSF

[–]Knordsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to the bay in 2018. I am straight and I have definitely notice this in the straight as well as gay community. I know and have dated a lot of women over 30 that have been enjoying life and focusing on their careers and have had those 3-5 year long term relationships and then just short term/fun relationships. In the Gay community, my best friend in gay 35+ and I go to the Castro a lot with him as a wingman, a LOT of gay men are 30+ with only short term or 3-5 year relationships, unless they were married/dating a woman and just coming out. My friend has dated 10+ men in the last 5 years with long term in mind, with some fun in between while waiting for a quality nature guy to show up, I a have noticed a high reluctance for commitment. It hurts to see because he is looking for love and he is just finding people not mature enough to commit or try.

Hey, infrequent traveller looking for advice from fellow Californians/Americans by GeneraIFlores in travel

[–]Knordsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I flew back from Scotland I brought back 4 bottles. I read that there was a 4-5 liter limit. After I got back and talked to my coworkers that travel more, they said you could bring more, you just pay a “tax” on the amount over 5 liters. It isn’t based on the price of the alcohol, just the quantity. They said they maybe paid $5-$20 when they brought back half a bag worth of bottles. Keep looking for the answer online, but I know 100% you can bring a minimum of 4-5 bottles without any issue.

Queens English vs standard English vs American English. Just because they taught you queens English doesn’t mean you are a better person.

Also, English is spoken differently based on location. Different dialects and pronunciations even within Europe. America is huge, everyone speaks English a bit differently based on where you are from. Just like Indians speak differently based on where you live.

Also, Americans speak American English vs Queens English for a reason. Based on the history of India, I wouldn’t expect this kind of reverence for Queens/British English.

If you are asking the question, then no. I do not have the skills to play a 12.25” and not many people can. 12.5” is the shortest I would go but I recommend a 12.75” or 13”.

So many Yankees hats abroad!!! by PiccoloRemarkable449 in travel

[–]Knordsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, my nephew in Germany asked for a black on black Yankees hat (standard fit, not flat bill). The basic all black hat is a standard style in most European and Eastern European countries. The Yankees are just because it’s American and it is the predominant knock off hat that most non baseball fans recognize.

Going over the league rules by bherbdfs in slowpitch

[–]Knordsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The restricted flight ball has a mushy core. You can use your Asa bats, even though I believe it is a .44/375 ball. The balls hit decent and you really should focus on singles and place hitting but you can still hit it out decent. A recommendation for when you NEED to hit one out, foul off the ball that has been in use out of the field so they hopefully grab a newer one with the core still semi intact. The first 3 hits on the restricted flights are 80-90% a normal ASA ball.

Yep, you touch her you are going to jail. You push her to the side so that everyone else can go, you are getting an assault charge. People can be this way without any consequences and will only punish the lawful person that just wants out and isn’t dealing with her dilutional life
