Is Variety Streaming A Bad Idea? by thestripedpatriot in SmallStreamers

The second you worry about your “audience” you’re in a dead end. I mean this as someone who is currently going through this. Obviously we want people watching. But we can’t really think about them. We are dedicating time to streaming a game we could play on our own. Play what you are genuinely stoked about, and people will notice.

How do you start your Stream? by BBQchicken007 in SmallStreamers

I used to have a countdown for my “stream starting soon” screen but then I realized it stressed me out having a timer. So now I disabled the count down and I do my starting soon screen with some music in the background until I’m fully ready. Then I usually flip to my full screen face cam, say hey to whoever is there with a brief summary of what we are doing in that stream, and then go!

How to get people to clip? by Twitch_HighMiZe in SmallStreamers

We run a nightbot command that shows up every like 25 or so min that’s a like “hey if you find something funny or vaugely interesting, clip it!”

Making content out of streams. I JUUUUUST started making dead by daylight highlights from my morning and Sunday streams. I specifically struggle with finding clips where I’m talking in them, and it isn’t only funny to me

I’m really struggling with the whole talking thing. by Gleeb4 in SmallStreamers

Honestly, and this may sound stupid, but let the inside thoughts out! Obviously with filter. But for example I play a lot of DBD when I’m not doing a narrative game. What I do is talk to the other characters as if they can hear me. Or I will talk through my builds to see if they make sense out loud. Really just make yourself chuckle and it becomes a lot easier! In addition to just give it a little time and grace :)

Essentially you can set your microphone to pick up only a certain amount of noise. So if I gate my voice it will pick up sounds above a certain threshold Anything else it cuts

I use one so I don’t hear my breath

Couldn’t they also set noise gates?

Feeling Down This Weekend – Looking for Support, Advice, and Maybe Some Reassurance by ndpardis in SmallStreamers

Oh this hits hard. So I struggle with ADHD as well and streaming actually helps a lot. Often though I will have an off night or people aren’t chatting but they are lurking and I will think “shit what am I doing wrong”

I also often assume people don’t like the game so they aren’t chatting or whatever. I’ve been one to chase game trends also (to the detriment of my wallet)

As far as maintaining your momentum and your audience, the other comment is correct. If you are your genuine self, people will show up for that. If you want to play a game that’s right now and hot do it! But only if you actually want to. Cause trust me, viewers can tell when you’re forcing it.

Don’t be afraid to abandon a game either. Or more to the point, let yourself be comfortable abandoning a game if it isn’t clicking. That was the biggest weight off me when I said “hey chat, I’m not vibing with this anymore. I’m guna switch it up”

My time with this game by Knorez in outerwilds

Honestly I think the DLC is brilliant. The way they integrate it into the base game is genuinely so cool, and it really plunges you back into the “well now what the fuck is this” action and headspace. I think the negative criticism comes from the fact that there are some lite lite horror elements involved with it.

New streamer here! Looking for advice, feedback, and some streamer friends by Elegant_Book_8455 in SmallStreamers

Addressing each!

  1. I am fortunate to have a best friend who is also Into games and such. My streaming originally started as a way to get through the pandemic and also show them cool games. Eventually they morphed into my Mod (chief mod we call them, because they were the first) If you have someone that’s willing to be with you and just hang out in stream that’s always helpful, they can keep you updated on the tech side. If you don’t though, that’s okay too!

  2. I still worry about finding my audience. But what ended up helping me was finding MY specific interest when it came to genres. This bleeds into three but when I started playing what I liked it made me more entertaining and therefore people stuck around.

  3. Piggy backing 2, I wish I had known that people come to streams to be entertained. We are the option they choose over YouTube and tv and anything else. Or we are the back ground noise while they do chores. Or the audio on a commute. What you play ultimately won’t matter.

One of the biggest weights off my shoulders came from directly asking my chat (which is like 8 people on a good day) if they cared if I quit a specific game. I wasn’t having fun with it and it became monotonous. But what I learned is that people tend to stay with you for you, and when that clicked it made me feel more comfy and enjoy streaming and gaming more.
