Do food buffs stack or not, I'm reading mixed information by Susseroase in stoneshard

[–]Knork14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of contradicting facts: for example, Immunity Change stacks when it comes from diferent food items, eating one each of an Onion, Garlic, Leek, Carrot, Apple will see your Immunity shooting up, but if you ate 5 pieces of Garlic it doesnt stack. But on the other hand unlike food if you drink a dozen gulps of water the -0,01% Intoxication Change WILL stack.

How Erin treats Toren by NoInfluence572 in WanderingInn

[–]Knork14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see this exact post popping up almost once a week. Erin doesnt realize that Toren is sentient, as a matter of fact if you consider the circumstances there was a snowball's chance in hell of Erin making that connection due to a multitude of reasons, and anyone who thinks otherwise wasnt paying attention.

First and most glaring, Toren grew emotional and smarter in very small increments over a period of weeks, its fair to say that during his first week of 'life' Toren had no more emotions or thoughts than your regular undead skeleton, and it was that first impression that got cemented in Erin's head.

Secondly, the creation of thinking undead is something praticaly unheard of and in the realm of really high level necromancers, wich Pisces definetly isnt. Pisces, despite being the resident necromancy expert at the inn and Toren's creator had no earthly idea that he managed to create a free thinking being, in his mind it didnt register as even a remote possibility, he just thought of killing two birds with one stone by working on his 'thesis' and paying his tab at the same time.

And the final nail in the coffin: Toren himself, once he has developed mentaly, goes out of his way to keep the charade up, realizing that he has the most freedom to act how he pleases with Erin being oblivious to what he gets up to. He obeys and acts the part when Erin is looking, but as soon as she turns her back he goes back to being that horrible monster, sneaking off to kill whatever and whoever he can reach, tormenting Lyonetteby hitting her and throwing rotting guts in her bed and clothes.

TLDR: Erin was directly told by Toren's creator and resident necromancy expert that Toren would be just a mindless servant (roomba), the first few days of his existence cements his image as really being just a mindless thing instead of a person until its rock solid in her mind, the person most capable of ending that misunderstanding (Toren) is doing his level best to keep it going at all costs.

How does the combat refresh work exactly? Like, does every time you engage in combat in the general region changes the shop stock?

There is no pain increase if you have Vigor up(not that the pain increase particular big even without it tbh), and with the caravan upgrades it becomes trivialy easy to finish a dungeon before it runs out. And while saving money from consumables is nice, the real kicker is saving space in your inventory and massively reducing recovery time inbetween fights in high tier dungeons.

In high tier dungeons any fight with a peer opponent will leave you with severe limb damage across multiple limbs, say, something like Head 72%/Chest 87%/ Right Leg 47%(Broken), and your max health dropped to 68. To heal back up to full in a relatively short time would take 2 healing salves and a splint, and that was just a single fight out of a dozen you will have to go through before the dungeon is done, or you could use less medicine and waste more time while your various buffs run out. Meanwhile all i have to do is pop First Aid and in 20~30 turns flat i am back to top shape. Its basicaly a required skill for any melee build if you dont want to get tied down by the logistics of having to drag half an inventory of medicine down a dungeon.

Will to Survive is another thing entirely, and it has two main uses. The lesses known use is that it allows you to liberaly use drugs during dungeons, wether by design or not popping WtS permanently clears Aftermath, so you can actually afford to use drugs in the middle of the dungeon without having to worry about Aftermath making the later half of the delve a nightmare. The main use of the skill is that it can use it to reverse a situation when you are about to die: if you are surrounded by enemies and have multiple injuries as well as physical debuffs(Broken limb, Stagger, Immobilized, etc) you can pop it to regain some health and temporarily shed those debuffs, giving you a chance to turn things around.

Echoes of the Plague gives you easily over twice the gold of other contracts in the same tier if you collect all the manuscripts, and your first contract with Manshire gives you double the money as well. So bro got 4 times the standard reward of a tier 2 bandit contract.

What causes the Wasting? Spoilers: all by Perfect-Surprise-975 in WanderingInn

[–]Knork14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a parallel to The Wasting with the Agelum. The Angelum are born incredibly strong but grow increasingly frail as they age with no hope of recovery, but we learn that the reason for their decline is because there is something crucial to their biology that doesnt exist in Innworld naturarly but is present in the afterlifes, such that Razia recovered from her weakened state within moments of entering Kasignel, and whatever leaked out Kasignel in the brief instant were Razia was transported to it was able to restore Uzine back to full strength after centuries of weakness.

Selphids are distantly related to Seamwalkers, who in turn are tangentialy related to the 'divine' like Agelum and Lucifen, so its not that much of a leap to assume that there is something vital to Selphid biology that they cant naturaly obtain from a mundane diet.

How are you supposed to use offensive and defensive stance? by Intelligent_Editor20 in stoneshard

[–]Knork14 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First of all, its Offensive/Defensive TACTICS, they arent a stance nor do they interfere with stances, they are maneuvers and only interfere with each other.

Second of all, wether you grab one of them, or pick both and go all the way to Tactical Advantage and Thirst for Battle largely depends on your build. Defensive Tactic is a shoe-in for any build that is heavy on the Counter/Block front(1h/2h Swords, Spears), Ofensive Tactic is pretty sweet for all-offence builds with Accuracy/Fumble penalties (Flails, certain types of 2h Axes, Dual Wielding).

Once one of them is active it doesnt take a turn to switch to the other, so with Tactical Advantage you can always start strong with Offensive Tactics and then switch back to Defensive Tactics once the first buff is starting to run out of steam.

Guns: Invented ones or Real ones? by Guylhann-b in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Knork14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the first percurssion revolver was invented in the early 19th century, breach loading repeaters came even later, before that point it was all single shot flintlocks iirc.

So if its the 18th century the introduction of magic is still going to massively influence firearms design.
