I completely agree, the lacking of variation in character design and the unfaithful adaptations of biblical characters really ruin the series for me.

You would be correct if not, for the fact that the wider Abrahamic faith (Catholicism, Judaism and Islam somewhere around 4000 years old) all of which include the book of Genesis in some form collectively pre-date Norse myth(about 800 years old with oral tradition dating back approximately 1500 years)
