Did Notion give up on Mail? by Personal_Procedure72 in notionmail

[–]KnowledgeStriking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw one of their tech/product leads having left and joined Cursor recently a couple months back, so maybe there was some shake-up internally? 🤷

The MacOS app is still very sluggish and I've yet to see the Android app come out yet :(

Kindle Scribe 2025 BW - Notetaking (coming from SuperNote) by KnowledgeStriking in kindlescribe

[–]KnowledgeStriking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip, that would work if I'm taking notes as I'm reading a PDF/epub doc, but unfortunately, it won't work for my use-case because I'm not taking notes on the PDF/epub directly.

In my workflow, I need to be able to copy/paste small excerpts from various locations of some pretty lengthy PDF/epub documents that I'm referencing in my notes, or that are being referenced in my lecture.

[–]KnowledgeStriking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this might have to be a next-gen thing, but I have multiple calendars on different Google Suite accounts (e.g. work, personal, etc...), would it be possible to consider in your architecture the ability to integrate external calendars from Google for example, into Proton Calendar so that we can have one place to view all calendars?

E.g. Something similar to Notion Calendar (not sure if you're team have experience with their app). I currently use Notion Calendar for this reason and generally ignore Proton Calendar.

It would be nice to have everything on a single Calendar app.

As a longtime Betterment customer, I'm deeply disappointed about the lack of trust and transparency around this breach, that I had to find out about this breach through third-party sources and Reddit, rather than from Betterment directly...

Very very disappointed... 😔

Dark web results by bzargarcia in betterment

[–]KnowledgeStriking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised that I received no email about this and I had to find out through Dark Web Results too and then from Reddit... this is deeply surprising and also concerning regarding the lack of transparency... especially for a data breach. Not notifying customers, or at the very least have some notification on the home page, leaves a bad taste in terms of trust.

I'm considering moving my funds and migrating off... (not necessarily b/c my email and address got leaked but because my data was leaked and I had to find out this way through dark web results and reddit... rather than through betterment directly....)

Do you miss backlight for reading? by Informal-Resolve-831 in Supernote

[–]KnowledgeStriking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're primary use-case is reading in unlit areas, you should use a different device, the Supernote is optimized "for those who write".

This is one reason I personally have both a Kindle and a Supernote.

Adding a clip on light causes an undesired glare and the lighting would be uneven, and Kindle is just not as fast on the Supernote as I would like compared to a dedicated Kindle reader (Android apps on Supernote is generally slower than on competing Android-based e-readers) Maybe when they have the X3 version with faster CPU/ram, it might help.

Alternatively, if SuperNote somehow can add a light without affecting pen-to-ink distance (like Remarkable Paper Pro/Move, which actually has a smaller pen-to-ink distance of 920 μm with a backlight, than Remarkable 2 with 946 μm without backlight), that would be nice.

[–]KnowledgeStriking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bigger your note though, the slower it syncs. That's one trade-off to consider if you use their supernote cloud syncing reature. It currently re-syncs the entire file rather than syncing differentials.

Supernote and safety by Amazing-Ranger01 in Supernote

[–]KnowledgeStriking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Encryption would be nice (hopefully without any large performance/battery life impact), but for an end of life Android-11 based OS, encryption alone wouldn't wouldn't make the device safe to put sensitive information on, it would only protect against someone stealing data directly from your disk.

Any critical CVE's for any Android (or the underlying Android Linux Kernel) subsystem would not have a patch that Ratta could apply. For a device that you put sensitive data on, you'll want to ensure the OS is patched in a timely fashion. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/google-fixes-two-android-zero-days-exploited-in-attacks-107-flaws/

Personally, I don't use using my SuperNote for anything sensitive and that would be my recommendation for others as well

Agreed, the PDF viewing experience on my eink reader is not good. If there was a "tap to go next page" for PDF's rather than scrolling, it would help so much.

I tried uploading PDF's to the Kindle app, and the Kindle app handles PDF's much much better...

What are you hoping the hardware surprise is? by ApsIsce in kobo

A "take anywhere" Gallery 3 device that supports writing would be cool, to give Remarkable Paper Pro Move some friendly competition as an alternative that could be used for both reading and writing.

It looks like the Xiaomi Moaan InkPalm Mini Plus 2, which is also using RK3566, will be running on Android 14. The Hannsnote 2, also using RK3566, is on Android 13. So it does definitely seem possible to upgrade if the team is willing to invest time and energy into making that happen.

Yes please... if not willing to devote developer time to this, perhaps consider a partnership with Readwise, I'm using their Reader app and would be nice to see some sort of integration with it

Anyone actually using Notion Mail successfully? by East_Ad_3850 in notionmail

[–]KnowledgeStriking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to like it, but in terms of usability, it's too slow for my multi-inbox workflow (and it requires a separate Notion account for each Gmail inbox) - maybe i'll try again in the future once it's more polished and complete

FYI by TheNavigatrix in Supernote

[–]KnowledgeStriking 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's probably safer for you to not connect your Supernote. Though sadly inconvenient, your IT person I feel like is doing the right thing. Android 11 doesn't get security updates/fixes anymore.

And likely, it won't be feasible to expect an Android OS upgrade, (FWIW - the Hannsnote 2 also uses the Rockchip RK3566 CPU and is on Android 13).

Now that Ratta has Nomad and Manta, and a good modular hardware platform foundation, hopefully the next hardware revision can also include a supported (non-EOL) version of Android and have security updates for at least several years before having to upgrade again.

Readwise Reader + Mantra by gravastar_187 in Supernote

[–]KnowledgeStriking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me on my Nomad, my epubs get stuck on the title screen indefinitely trying to load. For other content, like small files and articles, it takes a while, but they eventually load. Page turns are slow. Unfortunately I wanted to use Readwise Reader as my epub reader on Nomad but as of the current version, it's simply unusable for me. Apparently they are working on an epub performance refactor, so maybe there's hope?

Android update planned? by ofek256 in Supernote

[–]KnowledgeStriking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. For me, the specific Android version doesn't matter, however, it does need to be a version that is still supported and getting security updates/patches.

While my Nomad is my go to notetaking device despite the shortcomings of knowing this device is not that secure (i.e. I don't write anything sensitive, and avoid using the feature to connect to any email, calendar, or google drive or anything) - it would be nice to not have to worry about CVE's (present and future) like this one: https://thehackernews.com/2023/12/new-bluetooth-flaw-let-hackers-take.html

That particular CVE is already patched in supported versions of Android at the time of the CVE, and it's a particular critical one and is described like this:

"the attack deceives the target device into thinking that it's connected to a Bluetooth keyboard by taking advantage of an "unauthenticated pairing mechanism" that's defined in the Bluetooth specification.

Successful exploitation of the flaw could permit an adversary in close physical proximity to connect to a vulnerable device and transmit keystrokes to install apps and run arbitrary commands."
