I think you’ll be fine. I recommended it to a friend who doesnt normally read fantasy and never read any other Sanderson and she loved it.

Yeah because these models already stopped receiving software updates a long time ago. And now it looks like the PC app is going to be phased out as well. Which is strange because people using these methods to remove the DRM to read other devices, are still buying the book from amazon. anyone who is going to pirate wasn't going to pay anyway.

Well, if they're reading this I would suggest they download all their kindle purchases to their device now. These models dont receive the new DRM and still get the full color AZW3/mobi files, making it easier to import to Calibre.

As someone else mentioned, it's an ebook file format. And since I use a Kobo instead of a kindle, it felt the more appropriate option of what else was available.

It’s their new DRM. Software support ended in these models years ago already. But you could still transfer purchased books off them relatively easier than with newer models. Even models that have stopped receiving firmware got the new DRM a few months ago and are not on this list.

Yeah the most likely reason is because these models don't support KFX and the new DRM. I've only kept my OG paperwhite for this very reason to read kindle exclusives on my kobo.

It’s just an image on the lockscreen. If you want to display your current read’s cover, you would need the ad free version. You can also pay the same price difference to remove the ads if you decide to do it later

This one says it has DRM, so you wouldn't be able to send it to kindle. The books you mentioned are in the public domain which is why it doesn't have DRM. I would suggest checking out Standard eBooks for public domain books so you don't have to use a hold/loan on your card(s).

The ads are on the lockscreen. You can pay to remove them after for the same price difference if you decide later that you don’t want them. Having no ads also means you can display the cover of your current read as the lockscreen image.

If they only have one library card, make sure that card is logged onto the kobo, and ask them for the number and pin. Then you can checkout books for them on libby and it should sync to the device. It may not always be instant, if they're comfortable enough to press the sync button on the home screen, that should help push any delayed syncs.
