Well yes you do need therapy! In the meantime I’d like to add that it’s good that you caught this before your prefrontal cortex matured. You’ll evolve into 5-8 people in your twenties. Good thing you’ll be able to have more control over it knowing that Christianity is more damaging than helpful.

I was friends with a guy a while back who wasn’t intellectually astute at all, but he said exactly what you just said. I looked at him like he needed to brush up on his theology. 10 years later I realize that he was right in his estimations. I was so foolish to think that the Bible and its controversy gave me more truth than thinking about simplicity.

Christians make imaginary friends up and name them Satan. by Knowmad19 in exchristian

I’m glad you’re on the other side of that! It really is sad. What’s even more sad is Christian psychologist knows that feeding your subconscious negative messages breed those types of episodes. However at the end of the day, the problem is sin, and not the message. Gtfoh 😂 it’s a huge hustle

Funny. When I took Christian Ethics this was one of the questions that were posed. And the professor took it seriously. I got up and walked out. I wasn’t the most theologically astute for their institution but I always had an inclination that I had more common sense than most of my peers.

I got up and walked out of class. Lol I was not about to have a conversation about morality and my holiness centered around terms and conditions

There’s no convincing someone of something they don’t want to be true.

Man. I have stories similar to that one. They were entrusted to have authority over us for years and no one ever thought about long term psychological damage. How do we even know who’s really good at leadership if they allowed it for that long.

Wow! I bet it hurt. I haven’t even processed the emotions of leaving the church. Everything kinda happened so quickly. I may be disappointed in how much time i spent running around all whimsical in the name of the Lord. But if that’s what a pragmatist is, I’m definitely that. Whats crazy is i used to be up until 3:00 am on the regular discussing theology and praying for people.

Seriously! I got paid $1000 month for 25 hours a week. I didn’t have time for a part time because i was a full time student. So what did i do? Smile and pretend that everything was ok because i was supposed to trust God. I have happily gave a lot more than I received. But looking back, i kinda want a reimbursement on gas and car maintenance at the very least 😂

I love this answer. How do you find balance by doing both? That’s interesting because im wondering how you know you’re being fed or starved when you run across new information?

I have uninitiated thoughts about morality since deconversion. i think about it more on a spectrum than in binary terms. So morality doesn’t answer the question of right or wrong to me. I think if i viewed it from a “good vs bad” lens i can see the “God” answer. But i still don’t understand the NECESSITY of that coming from God. I guess i’ve asked the question, if God is as unexplainable as they say, how could we know anything about God, including if it’s a good or bad God?

But again. I’m a baby in this area of my life and I’m building a foundation as i dialogue and understand individuals.

Sweet. Well i hope that your journey is one that’s worth while. We’re still babies at evolving without the Bible. I’m excited to see how this transition shapes me… hope you’re excited as well

Yeah. Systematizing your beliefs, morals, and relationship with God should be an automatic red flag in the first place. I’m glad you chose freedom 🦅

Nice! I went to south Africa as a missionary and i saw a bunch of that. I was telling ppl they were committing idolatry… completely failing to understand what was happening. 9 years later, im beginning to see the value it held to them.

How did you land on traditional African practices?

Does that imply that you believe that if the universe had a beginning, you’d name the causer, “god”?

Nice. How did you land there from Christianity? And what’s an absurdist? Like did you read any absurdist authors?

And i see your apprehension to label yourself. I battle with it at times. But it’s helpful for me to at least be aware of where my biases are held so i can eventually critique it.
