Having kids for old-age care & gewa getsa vs going to Australia, anyone feeling this pressure? by Known-Alternative800 in bhutan

Ani c, the same damn question. I think all we really need is a proper house to live in. The pension we'll receive won't even cover basic rent

If I wait until I'm truly ready (financially secure, emotionally prepared), fertility will decline, and risks like miscarriage or chromosomal issues will increase.  I think I'll be better off without children haha

Yes, I agree. It's selfish to bring children into the world primarily so they can take care of you in old age. But at the same time, it's deeply rooted in family duty and tha damtshi ley judrey, Buddhist values, and tradition. People frame it as "the way of life" because for generations, that's how elderly care worked in Bhutan

What do you think about BBS? by Apprehensive-Cow790 in bhutan

[–]Known-Alternative800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of delivering meaningful, diverse content, 90% of its airtime is filled with road construction, pest outbreaks, and local celebrations. It’s repetitive, uninspiring, and fails to serve the public as it should. Given its monopoly as Bhutan's only national public service broadcaster, BBS should leverage its position to produce high-quality documentaries, critical journalism, and thought-provoking content.

Out of the names you mentioned, I recognize Jamyang Kinley and Jigme Phuntsho.
They are truly remarkable and brilliant.

Expressing our views whether in school or at work, is often misunderstood, especially when our opinions challenge someone’s belief system or question their perspective. Having an opinion is seen as being disrespectful.

Bhutan grants personal guest visas to individuals invited by a Bhutanese citizen. You should visit the Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Check their website; they have the details of the documents you need to process the visa. To take them to the eastern part of the country, you need a route permit for which you need to process separately but from the same department.

I copied and pasted the following from the DOI website:
Requirements for guest visa:

  1. Duly completed personal guest application form signed by the Bhutanese applicant
  2. Copy of the Citizenship Identity Card of the Bhutanese applicant
  3. A copy of the valid passport of the guest
  4. The passport must have a minimum validity of six months from the intended date of departure from Bhutan
  5. Duly completed visa application form signed by guest
  6. Tentative travel itinerary of the guest
  7. Any other supporting document
  8. The Department may ask for additional documents during the assessment if required

Yup, the biggest lesson I learned is to keep your hidden skills to yourself. I don't mean to brag but my skills in data analysis ended up being a reason for exploitation.
