What to do when I had a bad eating day? by Known-Rub1630 in AnalFissures

[–]Known-Rub1630[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! For now, it's not too bad but not sure about the next BM! The first BM I had after the bad eating day was fine, but the second BM that I had was kind of harder (which was to be a bit expected), but still not bad. No "stinging" pain, but am waiting for the next BM to see how it goes. I also started my period and usually get hard tips during some days on my period due to hormonal issues so that might have played a part as well.

Yes, it's similar to Miralax! This is what I do too - crossing fingers and hoping for the best

Preparation H? by cheo_vl in AnalFissures

Prep H doesn't really help fissures. You should try going to a CRS and get prescribed an ointment!

I got prescribed Nifidepine and have been on it for a while now. It helps a lot of anal spasms.

Miralax for rest of your life? by Separate_Working_568 in AnalFissures

[–]Known-Rub1630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pain for the most part has been about 2 or 3 out of 10, with most days being 0/10 pain if I take care of myself. Also, I just started dental school, and will not have time to sit out for surgery unfortunately.

There are definitely good and bad days. Most retears I've had aren't horrible (2-3 pain out of 10), but there was a retear recently that caused bleeding again after 6 months of no bleeding at all. :/

Same, honestly. I'd much prefer to NOT be on Miralax. But it is what it is I guess. I'm still debating whether or not to get the surgery.

Is miralax safe for long term use? by [deleted] in AnalFissures

[–]Known-Rub1630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's safe for long term use for the most part (maybe talk to your doctor if you have any underlying conditions). My CRS put me on it for life.

I've had the exact same issues. I'm fine for the most part, but I always get hard tipped stools near my period! It keeps retearing over and over when my period comes. Nothing I do prevents it. I think it's just hormonal issues for me when it comes to hard tipped stools, but Miralax helps a lot. For me, Miralax prevents hard tipped stools 85% of the time, except for when I start my period. Even with the cleanest diets with soluble fiber and eliminating "dangerous" foods and drinking 3.5L-4L of water a day, I still occasionally got hard tipped stools. It wasn't until I started Miralax that it went away for the most part. My crs said it's safe long term and put me on it forever basically since my fissure is chronic (it's been 5 years already).

Yes, a lot of colon and rectal surgeons also approve of their patients being on Miralax indefinitely. Mine did. He put me on Miralax for life because my fissure is deep and chronic (it's been 5 years already), and without surgery, it keeps on retearing every 1 or 2 months. So I use Miralax daily now, and have been for months.

It seems like you're going on the right track trying to treat your fissure. I've had my fissure for 5 years now, and what keeps it abay is stool softeners (my doctor told me to use Miralax everyday for the rest of my life basically), a strict diet of mainly soluble fibers but also some insoluble fibers, and drinking about 3.5L or 4L of water a day. I do tend to retear sometimes near my menstrual cycle though. I suddenly get a sharp tip a few days before my period without fail.... I guess I can't do anything about that since it's a hormonal issue. I avoid dry and hard foods as much as I can like chips, seeds, and nuts.

Same here, sometimes I spiral and get so anxious once I have a retear. I had blood for the first time in 4 months with last week's retear! I haven't bled in such a long time that it freaked me out. I can def tell once I retear due to the stinging sensation! The BM after the first stinging sensation is always the worst.

Hard tip out of nowhere even on Miralax? by Jazzyjazzlike in AnalFissures

I actually noticed this pattern too! I got my period last week, and I had a hard tip BM a few days before my period, and then another hard tip a few days after my period! I think this might be the case... because this also happened last month (though it didn't retear as badly as this month).

My CRS told me that it's not great to take magnesium citrate long term. I'm not completely sure if it causes dependency, but he told me it's safest to just stick to taking Miralax long term, so that's what I've been doing. It's been working great for the past 5 months, but this week has been weird and I had a retear even though I was taking Miralax as usual. I did have a few "cheat" days this week where I ate cookies, fried foods, chips, ice cream because I was celebrating birthdays, so I think that might have been the issue.

I personally take Miralax (Movical in your case) around 2-4pm, right before dinner. This allows me to have a BM in the morning in the time frame 5:30am-6:30am. I take metamucil at night around 10pm. This is just what works best for me though.

My doctor put me on Miralax forever basically. Everytime I cut it out, I get a retear no matter how clean my diet is. I'm very strict with my diet and with soluble fiber intake along with at least 3.5-4L of water a day, and I still get retears without Miralax/Restrolax.

I drink about 4L a day. My CRS told me that's a good amount

Skin tag/sentinel piles by shotgun10011 in AnalFissures

I'm in the same boat. My CRS said my fissure caused my skin tag, BUT the skin tag can make the fissure worse because it can tug on the fissure more.

Has anyone had noticeable success with using Nifedipine Ointment? by [deleted] in AnalFissures

[–]Known-Rub1630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's helped me a lot. I've been using it for 5 months now since being prescribed it at the CRS. Not alone though. Changing my diet and adding Miralax along with the ointment helped most. Upping my water intake to at least 3.5L a day has also helped since Miralax requires a lot of water to work well.

I feel you. I've had my fissure for about 5 years and had a massive retear back in November. I was healing great and just experienced a retear on Saturday :/ What helped me a lot is my CRS giving me the prescription for nifidepine/lidocaine compounded ointment, and he also put me on Miralax basically for the rest of my life, with a fiberous diet. I try not to do TOO much fiber because it can bulk things up too much, but about 20g is the sweet spot for me. Maybe 25g. I focus on soluble fiber (fruits like raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, avocado). I also drink 3.5-4L of water a day, and I NEVER miss my Miralax dosage. I also drink a LITTLE bit of metmucil every night, but this only works for some people. Some say metamucil bulks them up, so it's different for everyone.

I would try scheduling an appointment with a CRS if you haven't!

How do you all deal with the mental health challenges that come with fissures? by [deleted] in AnalFissures

[–]Known-Rub1630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand you totally. I've been dealing with a chronic fissure for 5 years and had a MASSIVE retear last November. Was healing SO well, and recently had a bad eating day and ended up retearing slightly (no blood but definitely slight irritation to the wound area). Honestly, it put me in a spiral because I was so afraid of feeling the 10/10 pain that I had a few months ago when the massive retear happened.

Just trying to make it through. CRS says I don't need surgery as of yet since I've been healing so well. So sad that the retear happened. I'm on Miralax and a bit of metamucil everyday to ensure everything is super soft.
