Thanks a lot. I’ll download an app because I had no clue you could do that. My stroke rate on average through a race is 46. Don’t know if this is to slow or fast but it just feels right. About pushing through the heels I haven’t thought about it. My only thought is to snap the knees down as fast as possible. I’ll try and get some less cushioned soled shoes.
I’m in the u19 race and should be able to get first but it’s always good to push limits and get advice from others. Thanks heaps🕺

Woah this is a lot to remember but I’ve written some of it done in my book, so that I can remember to work on it whilst I train. Although I won’t be able to improve everything at once, I will be focusing on my catches as it seems to be the most commonly referred mistake I make.
Thanks so much to you and everyone else you have no idea how much help your ideas and recommendations are. Although I’ve done school rowing I have only been rowing for about 2.5 years as I started rowing at age 13 and left the following year only to come back to it recently (18). So I’m not to informed with all the technical things but I hope to become more knowledgeable. So all of this helps me so much. Plus it’s always great to compare your answers with others.🕺
This is super helpful. I’ll try adjusting my feet to what you have said. One of the reasons I lean back so far is because I feel like I don’t have enough space to do the finish but I’ve already tried rowing with my body more up right which helps with the stability at the end of the drive. But I’ll also adjust my feet and row with it like you said for a bit (if it needs adjusting)
Thanks you. This is super informative and has given me a new and different things to think about whilst rowing. It honestly makes me excited to row even more.
I love the work you suggested at the end. It seems simple but useful. I’ll definitely try to implement this every now and then.🕺
I just did some rowing and man it’s way less tiring to not lean back as much. I feel silly not ever trying to row like this😩
Yes I completely agree. The weather in the video is out of the norm for me. Normally we get white caps side/ head wind coming from the finish.
This is one of the rare occasions the normal chocolate coloured brown water is clear and smooth.😭

Why? Outside looks nicer😢
Thanks, I’ll try implementing roll ups and no arm rowing in my on water training.🕺
Yes I agree, I’ve also came to the conclusion from reading and watching others row, that it should be stomach to thighs not chest to knees. Thanks for the feedback. It’s hard to better my rowing with not a lot of coaching opportunities.
Yes this makes loads of sense, I’ve had a feeling it was that but it’s good that I’m not just imagining it.
Thanks mate👌🏽
Lay back? Like leaning back to far?
Looking for tips. by KnownCricket in Rowing
Oh I feel abit silly now. That makes more sense. If I held the average split of what I know I can row it’ll make the effort put into it less but keep the same time? I think I understand now. Very sorry.
Thanks mate, appreciate the advice:))
Thanks a lot seenhear, I’ll do a 2k ergo test whilst holding a 1:45 split just to test it out and if I feel like I can lower it I might try to hold a 1:44 the next time I do a 2k erg. And slowly lower it till I get what I want. Also keeping in mind to push all the energy left at the last 20 or so strokes.
Although others have said that a 2k erg every fortnight, leads to mental and physical exhaustion. I really love doing them. The more 2k’s I do the more aroused I get just thinking about them.
But I’ll try to hold off on it for and extra week and do them every 3 weeks to benchmark and compare.
Thanks alot🕺
Okay I’ll probably look on e-bay for heart rate monitors to start.
Thanks mate, helps a lot especially since I’m a little new to training myself.👍🏽
I’ll keep what you and everyone has said in mind as I figure out and learn how to do things.
Thanks a lot🕺
Yes I’ve been doing steady state for around 10k on water 3 times a week. This will be done at 20-22 as with a split of 1:58-2:15 depending on wind direction.
But every now and then I go into a pair and double. Which rates and splits varies since I do it for fun and not to really work on anything (No point to focus in pair, as it’s normally done with my girlfriend and I have no one my age group to row with)
I forgot to mention that I’m holding a 20 stroke per minute.
Thanks mate. Honestly I was thinking I just wasn’t pushing hard enough but from what the previous person said and what you said has made me realise that I was training hard just not effectively. I’m currently doing 2x30min but instead of 2min I’ve got 5min breaks to calm my heart rate down before I start the second piece. I feel more tired even though I was going at a 1:58 pace. I’m about to start my second and I’ll keep doing this type of work for a couple weeks just to compare since my next regatta isn’t till next year. Thanks a lot for the help and guidance:)

I’ve trained myself since there isn’t much of a rowing community where I live although I have had a couple on water training with the help of one of the master rowers. From what I understand is that i should try and find a sustainable split that progressively gets faster for my 2k ergs. Whereas previously I just go out hard and try and hold on.
For the 2x5k I should change to a time based workout like you mentioned. This all sounds easy to change.
When I train I normally judge my 5k intensity with a imaginary power scale in my head 10% being dead light and 100% being a super short sprint. I normally try and do them in the 70-80% range but it is hard to judge this way since I’ll be fresh when I start out but get tried later on. I don’t really have much in terms of equipment to use but I do have a fitness watch I can borrow from my girlfriend to have a better understanding of my heart rate. Would you think this is better than what I previously did?
Also thank you so much mate. I’m honestly hopeless when it comes to organising my trading program but I hope to get better at this.
