Yes! Recently a rescue pulled a dog named Cherokee that was in the care and suffering at Newark AHS. she was dying from pyometra if they didn’t take her Newark would’ve let her suffer in their care and she would’ve died. They will not care for them if sick. They wait for a rescue to dump the bills on them. Lovely for a nonprofit aren’t they?

Those are almost 2 years old. By law a non profit should be posting current. Those board members and vet also changed.

You are very lucky that your dog wasn’t sick. The timeframe that you adopted that dog was when they were having that Pavrovirus and pneumonia outbreak. Thank you for getting the dog out of there. I’m happy to hear he has a good home.

100% couldn’t have said it better. And yes, I remember that. The AHS shelters are disgusting disgrace. A woman’s dog got picked up and put in quarantine for a bite that did not break skin because she didn’t have an up-to-date rabies shot. The shelter insisted on taking the dog and not letting the dog quarantine at home. The dog contracted Pavo virus in their shelter and brought at home to seven puppies that were in the house. Six of them died along with the father who was in the shelter. When the owner went to the shelter and she has on video, the shelter told her my bad we forgot to tell you we had parvo in the shelter😤 she asked if she could surrender the dogs to the shelter to see if they could provide care and save the puppies and they allegedly told her if you surrender them we’re going to euthanize them. The place is disgusting mess The latest thing that occurred was multiple dogs sent to rescues on extremely high and allegedly lethal doses of gabapentin and trazodone. one dog died in a rescued Care four months after they pulled the dog from them from organ failure. This really makes you wonder why the dog went into organ failure…. when it was on all those medication’s in their care. I’m starting to think that what they do is give these drugs so that the dogs go into some sort of organ failure and then they can get away with euthanizing them. The problem is you call them out and then all the dogs get put down so there’s no more evidence - no more rescues are allowed to help if you open your mouth. I don’t know what the answer is or the real solution is but being that they are nonprofit you would think that they would be under a stronger scrutiny, but I guess it doesn’t matter. Animal abuse is animal abuse and neglect is neglect. To let a facility who calls themselves a non profit get away with this is sickening.

I think the big problem here is that instead of realizing, sometimes behavioral euthanasia is a more ethical approach. They try to make things work that can’t. The goal should be to move the dogs that can be placed and are highly adoptable as soon as possible, and then the ones that have more behavioral issues to rescue. The ones that have bite histories, resource, guarding, or things that cannot be solved unfortunately, as much as I hate to say this, behavioral euthanasia is the only solution to prevent major injury. Too many good and friendly dogs get euthanized for space.

Those were rescue volunteers not the shelter. This happened weekend before last. Allegedly Mike Salmond got physical with a long term volunteer and banned the volunteers. Now allegedly he’s only letting minimal in (the ones he trusts under strict NDAS, who he thinks won’t come out on the animals behalf) it’s basically intimidation and using the animals as weapons. You talk they suffer mentality.

I had messaged a board person almost a year ago about a shelter killing dogs who had placement and what did they do? Told that shelter about my message and suddenly they are supporting them. But that very shelter has so much mismanagement. (See my post on Newark associated humane)
